  1. So my wife gave me some tickets to Sat/ Sun for this years open for Christamas ( love that women more each year) I know its being played at Congressional in Bethesda but I do not know this area at all. Are there aot of decent hotels near the area and if so what can be recommended. Also I live near Toronto so I will probably fly. Is it easy to get from airport to hotel/ course area?

  2. I would recommend you get a hotel ASAP.

also, you are being given 4 Plattsburgh points for this post. OT is not the new Rand McNally.
  3. I love par 70 courses for the US Open. They got 2 years to get the setup right and I think even could win this year.
  4. Holy Shit, only my 2nd ever post in OT and I get a reply from the President. I understand about the points and will have to accept them.

Are you serious about the immediate on the hotel, I mean i know it will be busy but is there expected to be that much of a shortage in that area?

  5. I would assume that on the weekend of the US Open there is a chance that there will not be a lot of hotels left to choose from.

This. I booked my hotel for last years masters 7 months before and the closest available was 35 miles away.

Bold statement, but yea id bet hotels are going to be hard to come by in close proximity and at a good price

Really? I called 1 month in advance and booked the days inn which was like 5 miles away...didnt go tho.
  9. Yeah. I'll look and see where we stayed when I get home from work. We went mon tue wed. We had corporate passes for AT&T. Best time of my life
  10. Yea my friend is the head coach at Georgia Southwestern and im going stay with him for that week this year....Its about a 2 1/2 drive but better than paying for overpriced hotel.
  11. "Its easy to grin, when you ships come in and you got the stock market beat..."

There are plenty of hotels but for that week, you may be staying a bit away. I am local so PM any questions about where's and how fars. There are shuttles daily but the course is not Metro accessible.

The Chateua de Sponge Spa Bed and Breakfast may have an opening that week for a small nominal fee. Call for details. : )

  12. Like every single major event anywhere the hotels will appear to be booked solid and rates will suck when you begin looking and you should book something that allows you to cancel as close to the date as possible and as soon as possible, then when it gets within a short period of the event rooms start opening up because people back out, etc, etc, etc and you can switch Key being the 'make sure you know your cancel policies'
  13. thanks for useful replies guys. I realize it would be wise to book something soon but was more interested in some actula hotel names that are close to course area ( with shuttles obv)

    thanks Tiger

Ill text Tiger and see where he and the 5 "escorts" are staying
  15. If you could get a room at the Bethesda Marriott Suites off of Democracy Road, I believe there is a shuttle from Montgomery Mall, which would be very very close to there(probably walking distance from the hotel to the shuttle). Obv double check the shuttles, etc. from the hotels and to the course.

However, you may want to stay somewhere in downtown Bethesda b/c it has a much better night life and is easy to access DC if you want to head down there. Downtown Bethesda to Montgomery Mall shuttle is 15min cab ride plus minus.

Pooks Hill Marriott is also a 5 min cab ride to Montgomery Mall(which, again, I think is where the shuttle to the course runs from).

EDIT: IF the shuttle runs from Montgomery Mall, you could also check out any hotels in Rockville as that is right down Old Georgetown Road to the mall. About 10min cab ride.

  18. Since i don't want to make a brag thread, i'll just make a brag post in here.

In 2012 I'll be taking my fat ass, the retard brother, a friend, and his rich dad to the home of golf for 4 nights and 4 rounds.
  19. Deadly. I played it in a hurricane January 3rd, 2000.

Just walking around the place is magical
  20. Did you play any of the other courses there? If so what would you recommend
  21. For some reason i don't picture choco having a low enough handy to play Andy
  22. Choco, I was 17 and on a family trip. Played the old course and 2 other local courses, nothing special tho. My grandpa is best friends with a retired super from carnoustie tho, so next time I go over I'm definitely playing that.

The two local courses were in sterling and tillicoutry.

My grandparents have a caravan (mobile home in a trailer park) 15 minutes from st Andrews, which is pretty sweet as well. If you aren't already shacked up I could possibly find out how much they rent it for. I know they rent it out whenever the British open is held there. Although it is probably pretty small for 4 guys, but you probably wouldn't be spending lots of time there.

Any half decent course you play in Scotland would be a fun experience bro. Completely different experience than golfing in north America. Links courses, rolling hills, great landscape. You have to remember most of these courses have been in place for 100 + years and are settled in to the natural land and have subtle undulations that you don't notice until you're already experienced them.

Either way I guarantee you'll have a sick trip, and a great experience full of memories. Enjoy!

Does -11 even win the AT&T played there? No way they shoot better in the US Open than that tourney.

doesnt matter, Tiger rewrites the record books
  26. You've got three airports to pick from...National, Dulles, and BWI. BWI would require car rental or a taxi ride. You can use Metro if you pick National. You can get to Bethesda easily if you don't want to rent a car. Sponge is definitely right. Stay in downtown Bethesda. Lots of good hotels and cuisine options. If that's a problem, downtown Silver Spring has some good hotels. Rockville and Gaithersburg are also other options that are a few miles north but it can be a bit of a hassle to get to Congressional if there is traffic.

I think we are gonna play 4 courses Old, New, Castle, and Jubilee all in the R&A group.

I know we have four but I've talked about it with a few friends and as of today i'm up to 7 people wanting to go now. It's a long ways off still and I'd like to play Carnoustie being so close to it.

I used to be 86-88 everyday when younger, got away from the game for around 10 years after highschool. Picked it back up and joining the local club doesn't hurt. Probably play 30 rounds the past two years and i'm around 28, need to get to 24. Since joining the club this year i'll probably put in 50-75 rounds and time on the range. I'll be hitting 90 every day no problem.

I thought it was like 10 you had to be usga certified (or lied) to even get on there, is it only 24?
  29. You can get a pro to write a letter saying he doesnt have a USGA handicap and that he is capable of playing.

It's 24 right now and they say that a letter won't work it has to be a certified handicap.
