    Bunch of different civilizations and prophecies predict that the world will end on 2012, most likely due to a massively sudden polar shift caused by the alignement of the Earth, the Sun and a massive black hole in the middle of the Milky Way,

    the discovery channel always airs shows about the end of the world around this time of the year for some reason. there was one about the book of revelations on last week. and a few days ago there was one about the sun blowing up or something like that.

    Oh it's in 2012? I always predicted it would happen around July of this year. Was bitterly disapointed when it did'nt.

    i'm not sure, but i really doubt that black holes didnt exist 25000 years ago. thats a vvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvshort period of time for the universe

    Every time we look at the night sky, we're looking into the past. The closest black hole to Earth is 1,600 light years away, which means what we see today is the way it looked 1,600 years ago. I don't know what the relevance is, but it's interesting.

    Mayans are a fascinating civilization, but I wouldn't worry too much about some prophecy (as evidences by the above site). I don't know what the science is but I'm naturally very skeptical. I remember when I was like 12 seeing something similar on Discovery and according to it some asteroid was on its way blah blah blah. It scared the shit out of me at the time but obviously we are all still here.

    It just doesn't seem like too much of a stretch of the imagination that Discovery might flock to one or two scientists who believe an end-of-the-world is going to happen out of the tens of thousands around the world who disagree because the end of the world will make for killer ratings.
