  1. until the greatest sporting event in the world. I'm sooo pumped, hopefully I'll somehow be able to go, 2006 was simply amazing. (watching USA - Italy live was out of this world) In the meantime, some thoughts on the cup and European footy in general.

Below are three different rankings. The first one is my current Power Ranking, second is for beauty of play/overall attractiveness, and third for chances to win 2010 World Cup.

    Power Attractiveness WC 2010

    1. Brazil 1. Spain 1. Brazil

    2. Spain 2. Holland 2. Spain

    3. Holland 3. Brazil 3. England

    4. England 4. Russia 4. Holland

    5. Germany 5. Germany 5. Russia

    6. Russia 6. Ivory Coast 6. Germany

    7. Serbia 7. England 7. France

    8. Italy 8. France

    9. France 9. Turkey

    10. USA 10. Argentina

    11. Paraguay

    12. Argentina

    13. Ivory Coast

    14. Croatia

    15. Portugal

I really hope that both Argentina and Portugal to miss out on the WC as they are both in trouble right now with only two or three games left. It would be -EV for two of the best soccer players in the world to miss out, but I don't mind at all. Very excited for the Champions League too, but the only teams i see fighting it out are

    Barcelona

    Chelsea

    Manchester Utd

    Inter

    Arsenal

So, who do you guys think will have successful seasons?

I predict Barcelona v. Chelsea in the CL and Spain v. England in the WC with the Catalans taking both titles. I think this 3-4 year window is still going to be heavily dominated by Spain and Barcelona.

Xavi is the best center midfielder in the world. I said it.
  2. is the attractiveness category based on how attractive the players are?? confused here
  3. 148 Days 5 hours and 1 minutes actually...

    But a close 2nd.
  4. I just hope we get out little clay back unraped and unkilled. I couldn't go on without the little bugger
  5. England at number 4? really? As for Brazil at number 1 I guess I can side with that because of how they have been playing recently, but they aren't exactly consistent

let's be honest England will lose or choke in the playoffs like every worldcup. pk ownage
  6. Paraguay is very tough, and probably worth a small longshot bet at very juicy odds.
  7. I am by no means a fan of the England national team (partly bc every American soccer homer picks them as their fave by default) but they are playing pretty amazing now that they have a real manager and some purpose. They are undefeated and qualified in arguably the toughest group in Europe, and have actually played some good looking soccer. Cole Terry Ferdinand Johnson Gerrard Lampard Barry Lescott Defoe Rooney is as good as it gets imo. With Carrick, a healthy Joe Cole,SWP, Lescott, Becks, Crouch off the bench. They will be dangerous.

  8. I thought the Super Bowel was in Febuary.

    Pheasants
  9. The only problem I have giving Paraguay even more respect is that home field advantage is soooo huge in South America and they do not play enough outside their place, especially during their recent impressive qualifying streak. I also expect one of the African teams to finally make some noise in the WC, just have no idea who it will be. My guess is Ivory coast or Ghana.

Sadly, your useless stadium couldnt match the intensity of one single world cup game between Togo and Poland.

  11. World Cup playoffs = the league rounds? England have made it through to the knockouts before. Saying that it is the English disease to choke at some point (especially if it comes down to pens).

I've watched a good number of the S.A. qualifyers, and I can't argue with that! - just look at Peru, who are the 2nd worst side in South America right now (I 100% disregard every match Bolivia plays in La Paz)- at home Peru has a win over Uruguay, and draws with both Brazil and Argentina.

Of the South American representatives (other than Brazil), Paraguay can make a lot of noise, and Chile may be capable of pulling off 1 surprise, but can't honestly see them going further - I don't think they are as good as their results have shown. Ecuador is a total wildcard - very hard to predict - at their best I think they are better than Chile, and they did make a nice little run in the last World Cup, so they believe they belong. Colombia has a very hard time scoring goals and should not last long if they get there. Argentina get Peru at home in October for 3 points, and I still see them getting in, but anything they do will be despite their coaching.
  13. What is Holland?

Playoffs? You mean the knock out stages?

Go back to your egg chasing dude... We get screwed out of every trophy in the sport; either by terrible refereeing, blatant outright cheating, or usually a happy combination of both.

That said we're 8/8 in the qualifiers with a goal difference of like + a million... So we're in our best shape.

I agree with a Eng v Spa final... Although I'm praying for Eng v Ger, with England winning with a highly disputed 98th minute penalty. :)
