You are a first year head coach at a major D1 football program, you are undefeated and this is the last cupcake game before you go into conference play.. you are up 45-0 at halftime and pull all of the 1st teamers, your 2nd team goes in there and annihilates them as well ( turnovers being ran back for Tds, not running it up at all.. running simple draws the whole 2nd half) and you are up 92-0 w a few seconds left.. The opposing team wont quit, they go back for one last play, the QB gets sacked, fumbles and your D-lineman gallops to the end zone.. 98-0, 1 second left.. Do you go for 2 and deal with the media firestorm that lies ahead? Why or Why not?

If you are a middle or lower tier D1 program are you more likely to go for it or not? -
Qb kneel for top, middle and lower tier.
-
brett bilema would go for 2.
its on the card, bitches. -
hang a hundo on em, who cares what the media says
-
Depends on the point spread.

it's not worth winning if you can't win big
-
You don't even return the fumble. You fall on it.

College or pro, yes I go for two. Just lol @ people getting butthurt over someone running up the score at college or the pro level. I understand high school and below not doing it, but again, if you don't want someone running up the score on you in college or higher, easy solution: Stop them?
I laugh every time at the pathetic argument that it's classless to run up the score. -
Meh, there is actually a ton of thought that should go into a decision like this, granted everything leading up to this score was done with class ( IE not running it up in any way possible).. I'm curious to hear bfactors thoughts and some other sports guys then i'll give what I think would be the best thing to do.

Return it all the way back to their 1 yard line, take a knee followed by a quick timeout with 2 seconds left, then obviously kick the fg.
-
I'm kicking the PAT here.
running up the score for "style points" is a lot different than trying to hang 100. wtf is the point?
it's 1 more than 99. if you wanted 100 why did you wait until your 14th td to try the 2 pt conv? -
when you got to 60-0 just take a knee every play for the rest of the game and end it quicker.
-
If its Boise, TCU or another mid major trying to get to a championship, they have to score the most pts possible so kneeling would be detrimental to the teams championship hopes.....because you know winning evrey game for 3 yrs is not enough, you need to put up a hundred pts a few times yr to keep that margin of victory greater than 50pts
-
kneeing on every play is way more insulting than letting your 2nd and 3rd teamers go at it.

Or you could always try playing more than one opponent each year. That always helps too. -
For several reasons.. First and foremost to teach your kids about sportsmanship, to teach the fans and the ppl who read the story about it as well.. To have compassion for your competitors... Obv the goal is to win but once that is not in doubt there should be no reason whatsoever to score. If they are up 98-0 then it's a done deal that u cld get 2 yds if u wanted to but what does it prove? What does it say about you? I can promise you that noone will be upset that they didn't go for 2 but if u do there would certainly be backlash....
There was a story in Dallas about a basketball girls team who ran it up and I think won by 100 versus another team and the coach was fired. I guess it boils down to whether or not you want to embarass the other school. I most certainly would not do it -
clock doesnt run on pat attempts. whats the point in taking a knee? Kick the pat then squib the kickoff if you want to be a douchebag.
-
i def see the strength of schedule pt, but people are saying runing up the score is shitty. These teams have to run up the score as much as possible, just for an outside shot, so it should be perfectly acceptable for them to hang a hundo or as many pts as possible despite the score.
