99 years in prison for this?!?!?

    Cliff notes for those who are illiterate (which is plenty of you in here) or are just too lazy (which is also plenty of you) in here:

    Woman, mother of 5 kids, beats one of her kids (hit her with a belt, dragged her across the floor by her feet, kicked the girl, hit her with a jug of milk and then super glued the girl's hands to the wall).

    Girl ends up in a coma (but has since fully recovered from coma).

    I'm not defending this woman's actions. I just think that 99 years is excessive where rapist, child molesters, and in some cases, murderers get less time than this.

    IMO, she should have her kids taken away from her, get some counseling, get in a drug rehab program and be put on a minimum of 5 years probation. She could turn her life around and contribute to society with some help instead of spending the rest of her life in prison.

    She beat the child bad enough to have a brain bleed and the kid could've easily died, or could've become brain damaged b/c of the abuse. It is nearly equivalent to murder IMO. Lock the bitch up.

    She has chance at parole in 30 years.

    I'm fine with a long prison term for a mother who super glues her 2 year olds hands to a wall then beats her while the child urinates on herself. She can ask for parole in 30 years. Might be excessive, but I'm fine with it. Do you have kids mesa?

    the sentence seems long but only because the other sentences seem short (some killers/rapists/etc.).

    She could have accepted a plea for 45 years but rolled the dice and 7'd out. Should have played the don'ts. The kids are now with the mother who raised this animal. GG kids.

    imo its not that this was too harsh, its that all those other penalties for rapist/murders/child abuse aren't harsh enough. im fine with it, think there needs to be more judges like this like sandman said

    Funny how we are always talking about increasing sentences. Part of the reason I see this as an excessive term is because I don't see her as a threat to the public at large. The only ones in danger to her are her kids and I think the state should be capable enough to make sure there is no contact between them without locking her up long term. I have no sympathy for her, she is a horrible person, but in an economy where we are struggling to pay for our prisons and have had courts order states to release some prisoners in order to relieve overcrowding, I don't think we should be locking anyone up long term that does not pose a significant risk to the public at large.
