  1. My sister added me as a cosigner on her lease in Wisconsin without my permission. I live in Minnesota. I've called the management company but they have a problem answering their phone. How do I get my name off this lease and what are the possible punishments for my sister? Is this a federal crime since the lease is for WI and Im a resident of MN?

  2. How are you a cosigner if you didn't sign anything?
  3. hard to tell without current pics of said sister
  4. If you didn't sign then don't worry. For revenge you should post a Craig's list and/or pof ad for a lonely and "friendly" single woman at her address.

  6. Why wouldn't you cosign for your sister?

    Is she irresponsible?

Even if she is responsible it can tie up some of your available credit and so actually lower your credit score even if she always pays on time.

  12. do your sister a solid n stfu.

or report her to law enforcement and have her thrown in jail for forging your signature/fraud.
  13. How did you find out?

Id say nothing until it affects you then if it affects you directly report it and say you didnt sign anything
  14. federal crime? lolz.

State crime of fraud. Lock her up imo. Will make Thanksgiving epic.
  15. Rarely are co-signers reported to the bureaus with positive info. If she fails to pay, you "could" be held responsible because you are aware of the situation and >chose< not to take action.

Like the earlier poster, how did you find out? Bill collector? Sister - "oh, by the way"?

I would go to the lease agent and let them know the signature on the paperwork does not belong to you and document the meeting as my effort to CYA.

As for your sister, she made her lease and will just have to deal w/the fall out.

    Go! Pack! Go!

Maybe she's going to get her shit together?

I usually give family the benefit of the doubt, my play would be to contact her ASAP and let her know that she can use me as a cosigner but if she fucks up I won't be helping her anymore.

If your credit is important to you, perhaps you could offer some financial assistance if she finds herself in a tough spot that might screw with your credit.

If there's a lot of history like this I might not let it slide.

I'm probably pretty biased because I have a family that would basically do anything for me, so I can't really imagine ever not doing something for a close family member.

  18. Send her to jail. Fraud is bad... mmmmmmkay.

But galt, because it is across state lines doesn't it become federal? Or would the fraud have to be ongoing(originating in minn. then moving to wisc)?
  19. what is she trashes the place and owes like 5-20 grand tho, would you be on the hook for that?

If you think she is capable of doing something that stupid then i'd be worried.

I dunno though if she forged your signature well I don't think you would be on the hook anyways, but how did you find out she added you as a cosigner?

A rare time where you can answer with a quote of the post that is the same post that you just quoted and responded to. She is 28 and needs a cosigner for an apartment, sorry but people like that need to do things on their own she's probably in the spot she's in because she has been constantly bailed out by family up to this point. Time to cut her off imo

    Yup.
  22. I'm assuming that's probably the case, but I don't know enough about their relationship to know for sure, so I'm just saying what I would do in his shoes.

I would have needed a cosign in my early 20's I think (never lived in an apt tho, renting houses with a lot of roomates was way too cheap and so much fun).
  23. pics of sister? this can be the only way for a truthful answer
  24. Lol @ the "but it's family!" replies. "Family" doesnt lie and forge your signature. Get your name off asap
  25. Maybe she didn't know she was "forging" his signature and just assumed he would cosign and thought she was just listing him as cosigner?

And I don't remember her telling any lies about this?

    lol really?
  27. Makes me feel better about my brother signing up for a dating site with my email.

Worst part is I got like a 100 emails from girls (to my brother's profile) but couldn't look at their profiles because the site is only open to American IPs

Said he used mine because they only offer a 30 day free trial and had already used his emails. obv told him he should have made a new one then

Seriously? You must be assuming this girl has an IQ of about 60 to not know what she was doing when she signed, not printed, his name where it says to sign.

  30. Niceguy,

Sure you can use me as a cosigner on your next car loan, just tell em jtown said it was all good and you should be square.

    Dyzalot,

You're assuming quite a bit in your post. I never saw the signature so I don't know if it was in print or not, and I don't think knowledge of power of attorney or contract laws is really indicative of intelligence, so I don't presume to know her IQ.
