I have a canon powershot sd1000 and took some pictures. They are currently 865Kb. I want to make it to about 8Kb. The program that i use to start up is zoombrowser which shows the pictures. HOwever, i do not see an option that does this. Can anyone who knows help? thanks.
-
can anyone tell me what program does this ?
-
uhh what format are they nearly a meg seem like bmp
edit removed a useless word -
not sure what you are saying but the picture i have is 867kb. I want to change it to about 8Kb.
-
do the files end with .bmp or .jpg
-
Hey wretchy, i do not really understand what you are saying. I just right click on the picture and opened with paint. Now, when i went to save as, it has the file name IMG_0109. The save as type is JPEG.
I am confused at what you are saying. Does paint allow me to change the size of the photo because that is what I am trying to do. thanks. -
You can reduce the kb size by using the microsoft photoviewer software that is standard on all pc's. In the options menu you can type in the kb size you want it to be, OR the new size, both work more or less the same.
I used to have to reduce the kb size of hundreds of pictures every day before posting them on a site. It takes just a few seconds per photo once you know the size you need. -
Is the exact software called microsoft photoviewer software? I do not have it. I went to google it but it doesnt have that exact name.
-
i just asked a friend of mine and he said the same thing... change it to JPG file. But when i sent him the pictures, he said he doesn't know how to change the size of the photo from 800Kb to 10kb because its already in JPG. Does that mean there is no way i can change it?
-
i'm not sure how it is on windows but on mac if you're using graphic converter or photoshop there's an option to scale your picture. if it's say 800x1000 pixels you can reduce it 50% to 400x500 or less. so i'd say go and find the program that will let you scale.

Not sure if this software is any good but quick google search returned this and looks like it's free:

I would use photoshop but dont think you want to pay for it or figure it out so the above may work for you. -
PAINT will resize most pictures
scroll to Resize/Skew
add the % you would like it reduced in Horizontal and Vertical.
I think thats what you wanted to know? -
I tried the paint but what numbers am i suppose to put on the skew/stretch? I tried some random numbers like 50 to all of them and the picture just warped into something that you can't see. How do i know the perect i would like to reduce to? I just want to change the pic from 800Kb or so to about 8.

Sorry no it's called "Windows Picture and Fax Viewer". Right click on the pic and choose "open with" and you'll see it in the list.
At the bottom choose "closes the program and opens the image for editing".
On the right side you'll see the re-size function. -
That's what I was trying to explain.

thx iron. You got me confused because i was looking for the exact program and you used the long name instead of paint. When i use paint, where do you see you can change the KB of a picture? I dont see that. All i see are you changing the numbers of vertical and horizontal... pretty sure u know what i am talking about.
Can you tell me where specifically in paint that you can just change the kb? tyvm. -
okay i downloaded the program IRFANVIEW. Someone recommended it to me. Does anyone know what is the size i have to adjust it to to make the picture about 8Kb? Errr, i am not sure if i am phrasing it right.
-
Changing the vertical and horizontal reduces the size of the pic. Kb represents the size. More Kb's, bigger pic, up to huge sizes like 8 MB or whatever.
Changing the % is easier. Just type in the % smaller until it fits your desired kb size. Be sure to save the original until you find the right %=kb size.
To change the % INSTEAD of vertical and horizontal- Right click on pic, choose "open with", open "paint", choose "image", then "stretch/scew". In there you can see you change the %. Try 50% or whatever. Save as whatever your pics name is, but put a "2" after it. Then see if it matches your desired Kb! Done! -
p5s would be so boring without posts from dyna and pocketsims

Lots of good photography forums out there... pretty funny... But I love photography so I'm happy to talk about it anywhere.
