Advice Needed - First Time in the States...Tour of the West Coast!!

    Hey guys

    Am having a few weeks in the States in June and wondered if anyone had anything that i MUST do/see/visit when i'm in these places. Tried using the net for ideas but everything just gets so complicated

    6-10 June LA

    10-12 June San Diego

    12-16 June VEGAS Baby!

    16-18 June San Fransisco

    Few things;

    Me and my mate Rich (both hetro!!) visiting the US of A for the first time. Want to see some cool stuff, drink and party pretty hard and generally have an awesome time. We'll have a car in LA, San Diego and for the first two days of Vegas.

    Only certs so far are; Alcatraz, Grand Canyon and obviously playing poker in Vegas!

    Thoughts, comments, suggestions?!?!

    while in LA:
    *go to commerce casino biggest poker room in the world i believe
    *santa monica pier, manhattan beach, newport beach
    *must drive down pacific coast highway from santa monica, ca to malibu, ca
    *go to Belair/beverly hills and see how the rich live
    *sunset strip in hollywood if u like bars, house of blues on sunset is cool
    *dodgers game

    while in San Diego:
    *revoution ave in tijuana possibly if ur not scurred- tijuana can be dangerous
    *obv mission / pacific beach as said
    *the cliffs at la jolla -theres seals and shit i think

    if the timing is right make sure to see the Folsom Street Fair. it showcases a diverse cross section of West Coast Lifestyle. i can assure you,you will have many years of memories from this experience! God Bless

    might be too time consuming but id suggest going to a Giants game when in San fransico great ball park,beautiful women and bars around the stadium equal gooood times.

    Yes our girls look like this and you just might stay. I've got a big crew of english and irish friends here in San Diego and I can't tell you how many of them came to the states on holiday got to San Diego and never left.

    If you want a real pub check out the Ould Sod in Normal Heights on Adams Ave. We've got some fake irish pubs downtown and around but the real deal is the Sod. Easily the best pint of Guinness in San Diego.

    Do English chicks dig American accents?

    The American accent definately adds a few extra points to your rankings if you're speaking to UK girls. We watch so many American shows and movies that anyone who speaks in the accent has a kind of cool quality about them

    BUT

    The only caveat is that the American "reputation" does follow you sometimes. Some quiter English girls may be a bit intimitated by the "loud Amercian" stereotype...even if your not!!

    But hey....you dont wanna be impressing those girls anyway!!!

    ....Quick question on tipping.

    I know that you guys are pretty big on tipping and have different "rules" for different types of service. In the UK we generally only tip at restaurants when the service is good...even then its no biggie.

    Personally i'm a fan and more-so if i'm gonna be going to a place more than once/staying in a place

    Any general rules? Hotels, Bars, Restaurants, Poker, Other??

    Bar = about $1 per drink, if your sitting in the same place all night and have the same bar tender, than it is standard to just leave the money on the bar, and at the end of the night/session leave him $10-$20.

    Hotels = valet $2-$5 unless you want it parked VIP, then $20 is in order
    bellhop, if he brings the bags to your room $5 is pretty standard

    Restaurant = 20% for decent service..

    poker = some differ here.. standard is $1 per hand no matter the size of the pot.
    I tip $1-$5 depending on the size of the pot.

    hookers = only get tipped if they go the extra mile

    In restaurants 15% is standard...20% is not uncommon. At bars a dollar or 2 for drinks.

    In Vegas, tip everyone basically.

    Poker, dollar + for any pot worthwhile. $5+ for a big pot.

    $20 sandwich to the front desk if you are looking for a small upgrade like a better room, late checkout, view, some matchplay.

    Cabs I usually give around $5 but I am not sure what the prevailing standard is here.

    Win a poker tournament and give a small % to the dealers. I definitely take service into account here.

    Bellman get a couple dollars as well.

    Cocktail waitresses get at least a dollar.

    I know I am missing some people as well.
