  1. ALERT: President George W. Bush ordered Hurricane Katrina to attack New Orleans and southern Mississippi. We must impeach this guy immediately for this terrible act on humanity.
  2. Oh man...I missed DW....LOL

  3. He wasnt gone long enough......

  4. More important was the order he didn't put in place.
  5. It's amazing to have a disaster the size of Great Britain. I'm sure many things went wrong that will be uncovered. Blaming one person will seem ridiculious.

Early on the failure of the governor to bring in all of the National Guard, and 1/3rd of NO's police force running away was critical-need to look at hiring standards-cowards should not be a prerequisite. It was their duty to stay. Can you imagine if our military had that happen-that was a serious problem.

I think after the Governor's initial mistake, she has worked hard to do whatever she can.

But the biggest initial problem was the failure of the Mayor to evacuate the poor through public transportation-he missed it and he had plenty of resources and time to get it done.. They had 48 hours to get this done, and he missed it. Any of us may have missed this!

After this intial mistake I still think he has done everything in his power to help. He did get in the blame game too much. But that is an understandable knee jerk reaction when you could have gotten so many more out yourself.

The coordination of FEMA, the state, and the cities is clearly a system problem-but I think we will find when the levies gave way after the storm, that caused all kinds of unforeseen complications. And the delay may have been 24 to 48 hours.

In our survival family plan, we have accounted that if something went terribly wrong in the Phoenix, it would take the government 3 to 7 days to get to us-best case scenario. This area is much smaller then Great Britain, and also we did not account in Phoenix for a tragedy occuring after the intial tragedy event (hurricane followed by flooding).

We also know from NO that we have to come up with alternative plans, b/c we would not leave our animals behind. Call me one of the idiots, but I would never leave them behind-no matter what!

I am not saying that the people of NO should have been more prepared, there has never been a catastophe this large in the US, but I am saying that we are going to find many breakdowns, many far more crucial in the beginning, and I think everyone did everything they could once they realized things were not going as planned.

I'm not saying you are doing this Beanie, but many other people I see using this time as nothing more then an opportunity to make a political statement, or to say the problem with this country, or say it was racial-they just have gotten on their soap box and pontificated too early while too many are still suffering.

Many are stuck in the mud and it is just about their beliefs and destroying the people who don't see it their way. Not really about the magnitude of what has occured to our Country and the people in the region.

I understand the frustration of the people in the region, I don't understand the reaction by others for gain. If we fuel the fire ...

I remember when a certain group of people were viewed as open minded, free spirit, creative, and cool 30 years ago, and now they have views in which evil is in the White House and terrorist are just misunderstood-and if you don't agree with our views you are a monkey, the country is going to hell, you have problems, all of you lie on purpose, and we are watching Hitler youth like you. Wow-what a change in 30 years.

I cringe at any function or dinner when someone starts this rhetoric and demands agreement or you are one of them.

I liked being a young Hippie, there is no such group anymore. Just many imposters who when stripped of their titles really seem more like McCCarthism type people to me.

In the 60"s we lived with hope and an ability to change the world, today nothing but dispair. Entitlement has replaced the feeling of privilege. Instead, everyone is a f-cking liar but people with my views, and go to hell if you ain't with us. We win by saying people who do not hold our views are worthelss, and bring down the country.

Why do you think many are silent in these arguments, because they really are just absuive name calling discussions-they are really not an open discourse. I'm no a hard line Republican, but I do know this fact: Clinton's biggest break with his scandal-he was a Democrat. If he was not, he would not have survived.

When one side becomes that "tight" in their beliefs, I know your a liar and a ... Then really where does the prejudice lie, who has become the fascist in our society?

On a trip, ran into a guy from Michigan (he saw my Michigan t-shirt)-5th sentence out of his mouth "I'm a democrat, are you?"

At a dinner with a bunch of professors from a local University. "here you went undergrad to Michigan, that a liberal school, right?"

If those type of conversations do not cause shivers to run down your spine, then we are in trouble.

Let's focus on the people and away from blame. Many people in NO are in their 7th or 8th day of suffering or the end of their life and being buried at sea in their own home is just not proper. Let's take care of them really hold off on the blame game, and keep doing whatever we can to make it better for these people.
  6. nice azone.....good to occasionally see someone making a post that advocates individuality---people need to think for themselves, even if that's a lot harder than just molding their beliefs along with a large group and then making snap judgements of other individuals based on their belonging to one of these groups.

I think the best thing we can all do here is to help out as much as we each can in whatever ways we can help, and to continue on with our way of life. If there's anything we should take out of this, it should be a small amount of humility (rather than the arrogance that seems to arise in so many people). Afterall, we must realize now more than ever how much we are at nature's mercy on any given day.

There will be plenty of opportunity months, years, even decades from now to try and figure out if this was anyone's "fault." In the meantime, people are walking around in toxic waste, and many are in need of food, clean water, medical attention, and any number of other things that should not be considered luxuries. Let's keep the focus on making their world a little better---they need it a lot more than most of us do right now.
