  1. I love it when arrogant, shortsighted, wankster thugs lose all their money.

Feels good knowing I'm worth more than Iverson and Pippen combined.
  2. Doesn't surprise me. I dealt to Vin Baker and I took him for 100 large in an hour. Not only was he a degen he was an awful blackjack player with no concept of basic strategery. So no shock he went bankrupt. AI used to love 3 card poker which is a huge house game.

Played 10/25 with Walker a few years ago. He was buying in for 5k at a time and lost almost 60k in like 30 minutes. The best hand was him flatting an ep raise to 100 with AQo, me 3-betting to 1100 with AA in LP because in the 20 minutes he had been playing hadn't folded once, and the flop coming 224. I bet like 2k on the flop after he checked and he flatted, then jammed his like last 2k on a T turn with like 8k in the pot. Showed everyone the table AQ to be like "look at my luck!" and then mucked.

Was really sad to see him buyin for his last 1800 because we knew it was his case money. He lost it in like two hands and then just shrugged and walked off. He had a sick poker face considering he had just lost 20+ buyins.

    Huh?

If i had an old pay stub, id take a pic where it would say PA xxxx, with money taken out. It wasnt income tax, but it was something. My union friends used to bitch about this too. Its real.

  10. Say what you will. but dude had the nastiest crossover

  11. Regarding the tax for work in different cities and states, there are a ton of laws on the subject but the easiest explanation for the jersey Philly thing is that they probably have an adjoining state law so as not to punish people who live on the borders. Michigan and Ohio Indiana have one I believe as do others. Lots of comPlications involved in the travel work tax codes.
  12. I once got knocked out of a Bellagio 2K by Jose Canseco and he told me to quit poker :(

Also I'd like to think I would be smarter than a lot of these guys, but a lot of athletes grow up being so praised they feel invincible. There's definitely a good chance I would have went broke if I was in their shoes.

Sinatra, Pippen is not broke and now is suing everyone who said he was, and as someone said earlier, AI broke is much different than random person broke.

I dunno maybe we aren't talking about the same thing. but basically i moved to NJ and my work didn't update my address. i was living in NJ but still paying philly city tax and pa state tax but not NJ tax. i ran turbo tax and shat my pants when it said i owe the state of NJ $4100. emailed back and forth with HR and they assured me i wouldn't have to owe and it was their fault. the philly city tax will get applied to the NJ state tax. i just went to h&r block today to get all this shit straightened out. here is the link my work sent me

    http://www.state.nj.us/treasury/taxation/njit14.shtml

"Please note that the New Jersey/Pennsylvania Reciprocal Agreement does not apply to the income or wage tax imposed and collected by the City of Philadelphia or any other municipality in Pennsylvania. Thus, a New Jersey resident who works in Philadelphia and pays city wage taxes may claim a credit for the taxes paid to Philadelphia."
  14. Yea were talking about two completely different things.

Its a real thing tho. Its some sort of "luxury tax" for being about to work in the city. There is a chance it could only be constuction, union, or city job related. I dont really know.

yeah you're not racist at all

i don't care what a man does with his money, and lol @ some of the stupid fucktarded comments in here.

When he's dead and gone i'll still remember his unearthly talent and physical abilities. And say what u want about him "not being a team player" or "having a bad attitude" but no one did more than less. One of the 5 best players i've ever seen on a basketball court along with the likes of jordan, magic, bird, kobe, lebron etc. No one could guard him one on one in the world for 7 or 8 years. I don't give a fuck about the rest of it. To achieve the things he did considering his upbringing and to score at that pace being 6'0 tall (probably 5'11 with shoes off) is unheard of. One of the best players to ever live.

when you get a perverse joy of seeing rich black men lose their net worth, it's hard not to see why some people take race into account

people who are poor and then get money tend to be bad with money. it doesn't matter whether you're white, black, or asian. it's the same reason most lottery winners, poker players who bink a huge score, etc etc end up broke. it's hard to be disciplined with money when you've never had it growing up or know what it's like to have a comfortable life.

schadenfreude is pretty pathetic and says a lot about you as a person...

Should I have sympathy for people who make stupid decisions and throw their money away?

Oh, and my comment had nothing to do with race. The same goes for the white guys like jack Clark, Johnny Damon, etc. who were mentioned in the SI article.
  23. there's different between not feeling sorry for them and actually taking pleasure in their suffering (i.e. schadenfreude).

I actually do feel bad for a lot of athletes because they have no support system in place that would help them manage their money properly. Most of them were extremely poor growing up and really have no idea how to manage their finances---hell, most people in the world have no idea how to do it. Unfortunately, once they make millions, they only have leeches surrounding them instead of anyone who's actually looking out for their best interests and trying to help them make sure they set themselves up for life. Is it their own fault for the most part? Of course, you make your own decisions and dig your own grave.

But do I expect some random kid who came from the ghetto to know how to manage his 100 million dollars? Fuck no. I wish these guys would surround themselves with better people but I know it's pretty difficult for them. It's hard to turn your back on people who had YOUR back when you were poor and worth nothing. Not sure there's a "solution" but it's certainly not something I get enjoyment out of...

People who enjoy other people's suffering with money likely lead pretty bitter, jealous lives---and part of the reason they probably can't better their own financial situation is that they innately feel like life is "unfair" and that "there's nothing they can do about it." That feeling of bitterness and woe-is-me pretty much ensures that you're never going anywhere yourself

btw, this isn't just directed at you but a lot of the sentiment itt

no, perverse joy is appropriate for you, carry on.

my perverse joy comes from remembering all the great Iverson highlights and forgetting you ever existed.

oh yeah, johnny damon and jack clark = "arrogant, shortsighted, wankster thugs"?

    lol.
  25. we talking about practice?

    spending money takes practice

Please leave Pippen out of this. Don't compare Iverson to Pippen.
  27. I read that a mentor of iverson( i think his HS football coach) said that growing up Iverson had about 4 or 5 protectors throughout his childhood/high school years(OG's in the community) with the explicit aggreement that he would take care of them when he made it pro. I've heard that he couldn't reneg on this commitment w/o fear of repercussions(death obv).

Throw in some close childhood friends and then his immediate/extended family and his entourage was HUGE and obv his biggest leak. Then with his penchant for gambling, women, cars, jewelry, etc and well this is what u get. But the guy said that his biggest leak was having to take care/provide the OG's with the same lifestyle that he was livin for all those NBA years.

Having said all that i doubt he is broke broke. People claimed Whitney Houston was broke and blew 150 million too. But she was buried with 200,000 worth of jewelry that she had, was giving her daughter 1000/week and was still staying at 5 star hotels and the like. Broke means that they just have to live off of like 100,000 or 200,000/yr and just can't live Bill Gates style.

  28. Interesting article relating to cash strapped athletes.

I earned $79k in 2011 and while I know that is not "baller" money by any stretch of the imagination, I am very happy with my lot in life and am not jealous or bitter toward anyone. On the other hand I enjoy watching idiots fail at life, when they've been given given a one-in-a-million opportunity. You shouldn't need a degree in Finance to understand that spending 100k on a necklace and buying homes and cars for you posse isn't a good idea. Especially when you know you have a very limited amount of time to earn your millions.

I agree with all of this. I find it hilarious when any of these athletes or lotto winners end up busto.
