remember a while back when a guy made a recording of himself trying to get his AOL canceled?
Here is a letter I sent to AOL on Oct. 26th ,2005
Dear AOL, I recently received your final notice of termination of service. Well actually
it is about the 5th time you have PROMISED to cancel my account. Why won't you cancel my account??? I know why, because you want to keep extorting money from me. Yes I HAD AOL a
long time ago and was happy with the service, but I have switched to DSL from the phone Co.
and moved on. About a year after we ended our relationship, imagine my suprise when I checked my credit card statement and saw a $14.95 for AOL. Thays funny I don't remember receiving anything in the mail welcoming me back to AOL. So I called you and said "I don't have
aol,I don't use aol, why am I being charged for something I don't use??? Aol rep says " OH yea
you clicked on the icon to resign up." I said there must be some mistake could you check and see if I have ever logged into AOL since this alleged resigning?? Of course the answer is no.
Which I said PLEASE cancel it!!!! Oh I am sorry sir you have to call I different no. to cancel AOL.Which is basically another 16 hoops to jump though.
My credit card number was compramized so I was given a new number. Since that time AOL has never sent me a bill, only a request that I update my account info and keep pushing back my termination date. It's funny how the only thing I want IS to have my account canceled but AOL does everything but cancel it. Here is my solution:
1. find the date of my alleged resigning.
2. how many times have I logged into AOL 000000
3. How many payments of $14.95 did you charge to my credit card for a service I NEVER used.
4. How many payments of $14.95 do I owe you (for a service I don't have or use) since my credit card number was cancelled and I called you to cancel it (which you couldn't or wouldn't do)
Bottom line--everytime I get your "final notice" of termination I jump 2 feet of the ground and scream YES!!!! FINALLY!!!! cancel it already!!!!!! And it has still not happened. Send me a FINAL BILL in the mail, for what you think is fair to charge someone who NEVER even logged in one time and was charged $14.95 a month for god knows how long on his credit card.
Thank you
TODAY OCTOBER 10TH 2006 ALMOST ONE YEAR LATER
I GOT A BILL IN THE MAIL FROM A COLLECTION AGENCY FOR $59.80 for a past due AOL balance. LOL they will be getting a copy of my letter dated Oct. 25th 05 -
I just gave up and paid the $45 I "owed them."
-
I got AOL for free for well over a year because I would call them and say "cancel it", and after about 15 minutes of trying to persuade me to stay, they would cave and say "well how about 3 months for free". I did that about 5 times until I finally said I'm through with it for good.
Tim Lock -
3 months for free = $14.95
