Sorry, I know this has been covered ad nauseum, but search sucks. I'm finally going to Vegas for the first time from May 5th - 10th, for a wedding. I'm flying solo for the first few days, and then the wedding peeps come later. I'd like to pick a spot downtown for part of the trip, and on the strip for the other part (near the Bellagio preferably).
I'm 32. I like poker. I don't care that much about the room, but I want to be comfortable. I won't have a car. I would probably enjoy swimming at some point.
Go.
EDIT: Oh, and I don't want to spend more than $100/night on any room. -
It's pretty hard to beat Harrah's or Flamingo, imo. They are both like IP...except they won't make you feel dirty just being there. Both are across the street from Bellagio, really close to The Venetian, and neither will be more than $100. I can't comment on pools, but I'm pretty sure you'd be able to go to any Harrah's pool. As for downtown, I'm not really sure why you want to stay there...

Downtown, stay at the Golden Nugget. This is literally the only correct answer to that part. Place is awesome, prices aren't bad. On strip to stay reasonably cheap, Bally's is pretty good option. IP is cheap but in a you get what you pay for sense. TI can generally had for under a hundo too...

Harrahs is where you want to be. It's so close to all the best poker rooms. Ceasers Bellagio etc

downtown is the shit, the closer I am to stanley fujitake the better.
but the plaza is always a win, you can acutally get a drink before you current one is gone instead of waiting forever (plus I saw lil there once so its obv the baller place)
edit: the poker room there is basically non-existant from what I remember but I dont really play poker in vegas unless wsop so i could care less -
Based on your preferences I'd suggest...
Downtown - Golden Nugget (nice beds, decent place, good prices, good pool)
Strip- Flamingo (cheaper than most, centrally located, good pool there as well) -
Thanks for the responses everyone! Going with Golden Nugget for 3 nights and Harrah's for 2.
