Since I recently started downloading like 20 torrents a day, I'm curious now about putting them onto DVDs. Is there a DVD burner better than another to get to convert whatever file type to something watch-able on a PS3? Is it contingent on the burning software or the burner itself or is it however the file extension is burned onto a DVD? If it's the file type, is there any good converting software out there, or are any kind of .wmv or whatever the hell torrent extensions save as that simply make them too big to direct burn onto a DVD?
God I'm trying this like 2 years too late. -
so whats the point of burning them? so u can watch them on your dvd player in another room?
-
op if you are just looking to watch them on your TV instead of PC fuck a USB or external drive. Google PlayOn, you can stream from your PC to TV via any game console, works great for me, no problem using various file types, etc
-
read my last post dude, streaming >>> physical moving a hard copy

Def have to look into glo4m's suggestion, but I have a TV in my living room that is way bigger than my monitor or TV in my room, that I generally enjoy watching movies with other people with. I have ~700 physical dvds and kind of have a compulsion with being able to grab a handful and take them wherever with me, where streaming through a PS3 or other console isn't always an option. And if I buy a USB external hard drive, that still doesn't answer my question of, if I simply transfer all of the torrents that convert onto the external, will that always play through an xbox/ps3/dvd/blu ray w/ a usb connection? I don't know what kind of media they recognize.

DVDFLICK to take the avi file into an iso file which you can put on a dvd
IMGBurn to put the iso file that DVDFlick created onto a blank dvd -
cosign hdmi output. I have such a baller set up and i got it all for < 1k
I got my flat screen on a little stand, under it is my ps3, on either side of it are tower speakers, I put my laptop on the top left speaker, hdmi chord connecting which I have it set to run the display only on the TV, then i got wireless mouse/keyboard set up, so I can sit on my couch, and use my flat screen like a computer, or I can run VLC and watch any show/movie I want... I also just stream from project free tv most of the time. instant access to anything i ever wanna watch, no need for cable
I'd reccomend running a setup like this OP... just get a laptop with a massive amount of storage, a good HDMI output, and then anywhere you wanna go to watch DVD's, just plug it in. When I'm baller I plan on having a laptop just for this purpose, with nothing else even on it -
that is obviously the best routes, i currently stream from my computer and also have an hdmi cord for it as well, but the guy said hes a dvd junkie and has a habit of grabbing them and going places with them, in which case thats not always the best option and having the dvds is what he wants.
-
true, thats why i asked what his purpose was. if he travels a lot, obv external hd or dvd burning are best options. if its just an at-home thing, imo streaming is the way to go

Glo4m, I checked out PlayOn and it works fine, I'm more worried about the two week trial coming to an end. Did you fork up the money or did you find a crack somewhere?
Also, some great advice here...glad this caught my eye -
paid for it -- worth it for lifetime, plus you are allowed to install it on however machines you want legally.
-
Cool, it is a great service other than the FF problems...nice to beat off laying in bed instead of in my chair for once
-
This - except try PS3 media server first. It's free and supports encoding of .mkv files on the fly.

if you're hell bent on burning dvds get convertxtodvd ... should be easy to find and its easy to use it converts almost any format to video ts and audio ts files aka dvd
