  1. so i wake up monday morning and feel a sharp pain in my right testicle. soon went away. through out the day i feel this pain 3 or 4 more times. then by night it feels like someone is constantly pinching it. i call 2 of my med school friends and they freak me out talking about a tusion or torsion or something, so i go to the doc the next day. he does a hernia check, i joke about just needing some icy hot down there, and he sends me to get an ultrasound (doc, are you telling me i could be pregnant?) at this point it was fun telling my boss i'm not coming in today because i was getting my nuts checked out, and i'm pretty sure the doc will prescribe me a round of afternoon golf.

the ultrasound LADY said that all the blood seemed to flowing right and didn't see any problems, but that she'd send the results back to the doc. she advised some tylenol and that was that. i don't know if it was the massage with the gel from the ultrasound, but it wasn't as aggravating so i do play 9 holes. only that night, i had to walk bow-legged the right testy hurt so bad.

i wake up this morning and it feels fine, except for maybe a slight tug. by lunch time i'm having to walk really slow, as it was getting sore. and now im back to walking bow-legged again. stupid me left my cell phone in my car at work, so i missed the nurse's message when she called.

so any experienced males or doctors or med students have any advice? certainly calling the doc tomorrow. please, keep jokes to the minimum (probably asking for it now.)
  2. would you like me to sue one for you?
  3. it seriously sounds like a hernia, im a first year med school donkey, but i'd go for a second opinion....do you do much heavy lifting? a lot of permiscous sex (i hope)? also did the doctor do a testi check (for lumps and such)..... there is something not right with that, and id go for a second opinion....

F doctors, go into them and they dont do shit
  4. i did some lifting for my parents over the weekend, but nothing noticeably heavy... i'm not sexually active... he did the old "turn your head and cough" and a little feeling around, then just joked about this being a tough first visit.

  5. when you lift stuff it won't hurt right away. My boss did this unloading a truck, he felt fine until he rested for a few minutes a few hours later and couldn't get back up.
  6. ...sometimes days to weeks...when you re-irritate it
    e.g. 9holes of golf
  7. why is this guy's name 16F cali?
  8. i do like to play doctor in OT on occasion

  9. sort of was an inside joke. i have a friend that went to get his phd at berkely... when it came time to register his school's email address i was insisting that he make it 16fcali@berkely.edu

so you think the 9 holes of golf made it worse? it started hurting on monday and then felt better after the ultrasound, so since it was such a pretty day and the doc and ultrasound lady dindn't find anything immediatly wrong i couldn't pass up the afternoon. damn.

  10. ok, ok...back the fuck up people, I'm here now

    LOL!!! just kidding

Thereare several things which can cause testicular pain. Some of these things include testicular torsion, epididymitis, torsion of the testicular appendage, hernia, infection of the testis, or testicular tumor. Your pain really sounds like a torsion of the testis orthe testicularappendage.

I'm sure your friends told you what a testicular torsion is (where your testis twists cutting off the blood flow). This typically causes severe constant pain, but occasionally it can come and go. The testicular appendage is a little flap of tissue off of the testis that can also twist, which can cause pain, but usually not as severe as torsion of the entire testis. With either of these, you usually don't feel anytesticular masses and the testis isn't very tender to touch. I think one of these two problems is most likely for you.

Epididymitis causes severe pain of the testis, and in this case there is a piece of tissue right behind the testis that is VERY TENDER to the touch. Like really damn tender. Sometimes you can have pain upon urination with this. This is usually caused by sexually transmitted bugs (i.e. chlamydia). I don't think you have this.

Witha testicular tumor, it doesn't as commonly present as pain, but usually as a painless mass. Since you don't feel any masses, I don't think you have this. Another cause of testicular pain, is a hernia--this would be easily found on exam by your doc, and he apparently didn't feel this.

They sent you to get an ultrasound because you can check the blood flow to the testis and the testicular appendage. It sounds like the ultrasonographer told you the blood flow looked normal. However, this does not mean that this is not the cause of your pain. Your testicles can become twisted and then untwist, and thus the pain would go away and the blood flow will appear normal on the ultrasound.

What the best thing would be is to get an ultrasound RIGHT WHILE YOUARE HAVING THE PAIN. Sometimes, peoples testes can be attached totheir scrotum in a weird way which predisposes them to twisting. The only way to correct this is surgery.

I hope this will help you...

    I hope you feel better...

    Later,
    Adam

  16. Awesome!! Dude, it will all go by so fast you will not even realize it happened. Good luck on your tests!
  17. Im a doctor

you have or had a kidney stone

The ultrasound broke the stone up causing it to pass

did the doctor do an ultrasound on your abdomen?Im pretty sure he/she did
When the doctor did the ultrasound on your abdomen, if there were anymore stones in your kidney it would cause those to break also and comes out a day or 2 later

The pain in your testicles was the stone passing through your system
  18. i miss mupp...

    mupp when is your wedding?
  19. What kind of physician are you, bullox? I didn't know we had any other docs in here!

I didn't know that simple ultrasonography of the testis/abdomen could produce enough energy to lyse a kindey stone.

How can you be so confident that it was a stone? I figured the way he described his pain (pinching of his testis) wasn't typical of kidney stones. He didn't have the classic pain starting in his flank areas, which eventually migrated inferiorly into his scrotum, so I figured this was much lower on my differential.
  20. hey woman! I miss you guys too...

My wedding is in 22 freaking days, ZOMG!
  21. mupp i cant see. help me
  22. any Main Event / late july vegas trip plans?

  23. me?

    No, unfortuntately :(

I went to the M.E. last year, and loved it!

I start residency on July 1st, so I won't get much free time from there on...
  24. poo

  25. at least I get to go to Punta Cana, Dominican Republic for my honeymoon... So hopefully that'll be fun
  26. Im an OB/GYN

Not all kidneys stones start with flank area pain sometimes the pain is given to opposite side of body(lowerback) and depending on the size of the stones they can pass without any symptoms at all or make it far through the urinary track before getting caught up somewhere thus causing the symptoms to start at that point of the body

    *edit*
Ultrasound is normal procedure for breaking kidney stones, medicine is second and third is surgery
  27. should be better than a kick in the groin

  28. I guess its possible that its a kidney stone... I just don't see why you're so confident in saying that is the only possibility.

Still sounds more like a torsion of the appendix testis to me.

I also don't believe that general diagnostic ultrasonography will cause lysis of stones in the ureters, causing them to pass.
  29. thanks for the informative responses everyone. unfortunately that link wanted to make me believe it was an std, and UNFORTUNATELY that can't be the case. i've never considered the possiblilty of a kidney stone, but i'll be sure to bring that up when i hopefully go back to the doctor today. ditto for the ultrasound test results/torsion.
