  1. So, I graduated a few weeks ago from College with honors... my grades were good, but I truly think my best asset is my personality. I'm very outgoing, and have one of those "honest faces", and always been told I'm one of those fast talkers who could "sell ice to the eskimo's" , but my problem is I've gone to three job interviews since i've got out of college, and every single one, even for entry level positions, had over 700 applicants, and over 100 people getting interviewed, and all your getting is group interviews with like 10 other people, and they only ask you 1-2 questions each, so you really don't even get a chance to stand out.. and people with ridiculous amounts of experience trying for these entry level positions... I'm starting to wonder if I'm ever going to get a realistic chance at a job...... Is anyone in here a Sports Management major gone though this, or have any advice, because I'm really starting to doubt this career option....
  2. I have 5 friends with your exact same problem. The only jobs you have a chance for right out of school pay close to nothing because there are so many people fighting for the positions. My friends all have masters degree in sports management and they aren't even getting 30k a year! I just have my undergrad in finance and am making about 50k 2 years out of school. You probably can find a more entertaining job in the world of sports but it is really hard to make big money. Did you do UNC masters in sports managment ?
  3. It's a major that has gained a ton of popularity over the last few years and I'm afraid there just aren't enough career opportunities out there. I got a job right out of college at a sports wire company and havent really been able to find anything since I started looking around last fall.
  4. What exactly did you plan on doing with this degree?
  5. Ya, I don't even know what to do.. I did my internship with an AFL franchise and me and my boss went out to eat one day, and he even said he was talking with another owner, and theres just so many people who want every position, you can pay them next to nothing, and still have hundred's of applicants...... This sucks... I live in NH, but was looking for jobs around the Boston area, and am moving to Tampa-Orlando area in September, hoping I have more luck down there......And I really don't even care about the money right now, they could really pay me 25k a year, and if I felt it would better me and give me more opportunity down the road i'd do it in a second.... Just even getting a 25k a year job feels impossible which is sad to say...

  6. Well I really wanted to get into professional sports, specifically basketball, I have been a huge basketball fan my whole life, and have a great nack for talent, and have been around the NBA my whole life (had season tickets to the Celts for the last 9 years, and know some NBA players pretty well) ... I understand and realized that I was probably going to have to start at the bottom at some crappy sales job, and hopefully work my way to doing Basketball Operations, and then see where it goes from there, but like I said I had an interview with the bruins the other day, and there were people who had like 20 years experience, and people who have been out of college and in the "real world" for like 5-6 years, all going for an entry level position which paid shit.... I'm just like how am I ever going to get an opportunity? It sucks... hardcore...

  7. Is the sports mgmt. degree within the business school. See what happens is majors like yours and something like music business arent under the business school. Most of those degrees are in the arts and science degrees. This makes it difficult to find an entry level job.

Its like the guys who get a communication degree instead of a business degree because they cant pass calc and accounting lol.

If that major wanst under the business school, then you are just gonna have to to go back to school for an MBA, you really have no choice.
