  1. I am doing a patio and when I called to price out the gravel and sand base, they told me to use concrete screening. They said it was basically crushed concrete to a fine sand like substance. Has anyone had any experience with this?
  2. I don't see how asking a pro poker player about how to lay concrete will help you.

  4. pretty sure chaz could bang this right out for you. Just send $500 deposit on stars.
  5. Is the concrete screening more expensive?
  6. I just built a brick patio/retaining wall in my backyard from my deck. I used the paver base stones as well as Level 2 Sand from Lowes. Granted I also had a bunch of just regular sand in bags from another project my dad had worked on which can be used just the same as the paver base rock.

Never heard of the screening. My project wasn't too big, but the paver base under the brick and then used sand to fill in gaps between bricks.

  7. i cant seem to find anyone willing to give a price on a gravel base, so the price diff is unknown. I can only assume this is their way of recycling old concrete by crushing it and mixing it with sand and using that as a base. I am doing ~800 sqft so bags from lowes is out of the question considering i need about 11 yards.(thats about half a dump truck from what I hear)

  8. Damn, have fun with that lol. I'd do some research on it, but my dad does work like this and I've never heard him mention the concrete screening.
  9. Call a sand and gravel company or a concrete supplier.

Thats what i ended up doing and everyone just offered this "concrete screening". Just hoping someone could shed some light on that product. I did call one company back and they did explain it a little

  11. I asked assuming the concrete was more $.
I have done both...mind you as a laborer.
The one from last week: We used gravel/sand. It was for a patio. It was using smaller (brick sized) pavers.
The one from 2 years ago: We used concrete (mixed with some sand, forget specifics sorry). This was bordering a pool. It was for the larger sized pavers (12'' x 12'' and 6'' x 12'')
I asked the carp I worked with (on both projects...the pool was his house) which was preferred. Oddly enough , he said the gravel/sand.
I didn't ask why. Sorry lol.
  12. I'm no pro but have built 2 patios for myself and helped a few friends and family members do theirs. I've always used 6 inches of grade 8 gravel compacted, then 2 inches of regular sand on top of the gravel. After the pavers were set I used polymeric sand for between the cracks. Good luck.
  13. this is all I did one summer in high school. never heard of concrete screening, but I wasn't exactly the brains of the operation and I didn't ask questions. Best part of having a shitty manual labor job as a high school kid is that the mexican guys will always get you beer if you ask them. That's the only insight I have.
