If so whats your fav?
Mine is red wine. Cabernet Sauvignon.
I never understood all the hype about Merlot. I mean its good but both Cabernet Sauvignon and Pinot Noir are better imo. Maybe its a sign i'm getting old but I really enjoy drinking wine. Ten years ago I would of laughed at myself for liking wine as much as beer or whiskey.
Also maybe i'm not a "seasoned" wine drinker but I can never tell the difference between a $15 or $50 bottle. They both can be really good/bad imo. -
i drink alot of wine, you dont need to be a seasoned wine drinker to enjoyit. wether its $1-$10000, wine is only as good as it tastes to you. Alotta people put $ > taste when talking wine. Also i pride myself on finding the best tasting wine at the cheapest price, always a good challenge.

I enjoy light reds, preferably french but it depends on what im eating. I usually enjoy wine with a meal, not on its own.

raises hand
Personal favs are Italian Reds, specifically Brunello di Montalcino. -
Used to be into the Cabernets but these days I'm drinking a lot of Shiraz (half way through a bottle right now!)
-
La Crema Pinot Noir is pretty good, I am not much of a merlot drinker either. mostly white/blush wines with a few reds, and ussually only when I go to a nice restaurant. I really nice after dinner wine is a Bartenura Moscato.
There is a ton of stuff the you can learn about wines old world vs new world, regions of the world where the grapes are grown all make a diffrence in flavor. -
The only time I really enjoy wine is when I'm having good Italian food.

joey speaks the truth. I miss living up in SF - had a friend who worked at oakville grocery and would hook up some ridiculously good wines for me for super duper cheap.
best rule of thumb to follow when it comes to drinking wine = drink what you like.
I was very much a red wine drinker (cab, pinot noir, shiraz, etc) but am now going through a white phase (california pinot grigio ftw!) trying everything i can get my hands on.
edit - if you can find a spanish bobal you'll be pleased. very good wines for not so much cash. Its a deep red wine and was my favorite thing to drink a few years back. -
merlot sucks
petite syrah, cab sauv, meritage, pinot noir, zin are all great varietals -
I usually drink white when I drink it. My favs are usually ones that are like $10 a bottle. Price is overrated IMHO.
-
I go through yellow tail merlot like its my job.
-
My fav is Red Zinfandel personally. If u can get ur hands on a bottle of peachy canyon red zin i highly reccomend it. Prob about $15 or so.
-
i like mad dog 20/20

I am currently enjoying "Mr. Blacks Concoction" a red muscular wine, with some liccorice, smoke and a bit on the heavy side.
I just finished my wine room and bought over 100 bottles last weekend.
My fav is yet to be discovered but so far Caymus Reserve Cab has been delish.
If you don't watch Sideways then you are not a wine fan - great comedy! -
If you haven't seen this movie...you gotta checkit out

Red Zin does not get enough love. Of course it is not as good on the high end as cabs/etc. but at the lower ends there are some much better values out there that are really goot, espeically if you eat lots of things like cajun/mexican/ribs/smoked pork/BBQ etc.

Interested in hearing any thoughts on Reisling. I have yet to try it but I want to.
I always use to say I strictly drink Red which I generally do but I have been getting into white a little bit. -
In my opinion it's way too sweet..More of a chicks beginner wine.
-
A meritage is not a varietal. It is a blend, usually including some merlot. ;)

"raises both hands"
Started long ago with a basic 12-bottle rack, that has grown tremendously over the years since. -
When I first got into drinking wine a few years back I started with the whites like Reisling and Chardonnay. Way too sweet now imo. Gives me a pounding headache after a few glasses.
