Anyone ever use Magic Jack for a home phone?

    Just curious, a buddy said he has one I can have. I read on the internets that it can give u spyware with the updates?

    never used magic jack, but used Vonage and loved it.

    I never have but my brother in law does and he's always telling me how dumb I am by not doing so too. He seems to think it works great and has had no problems. TIFWIW

    And I certainly hope Vonage has cleaned up their act. I had them about 7 years ago, when it first came out, and I couldn't get a call to last long enough to call customer service and have my service deactivated. Was bullshit. Seriously tho, who still uses a home phone? A common argument I hear is that you get shitty reception at your house. FYI, new phones (Android) will make calls through your wifi at home if you want them too so you will get awesome reception. It's like having a cell tower in your house.

    The landline is dead son.

    I have had one for the last year and a half. I only have it for work purposes and it does just fine. For $20 a year, it's definitely worth it. The only drawback is that your phone only works when you're connected to the internet, so if you turn your computer off the phone won't work.

    Other than that, it works just like a normal land line with the exception that MagicJack has a slight delay when talking to people.
