1.
Robber fatally shot in Miami Burger King holdup

A robbery at a Burger King in Miami's Upper East Side neighborhood left one person dead and another seriously injured.

BY ROBERT SAMUELS

An afternoon shootout at a busy Burger King restaurant in Miami left a potential robber dead and the customer who shot him seriously wounded.

The bloody event unfolded about 4 p.m. Tuesday at the restaurant at Northeast 54th Street and Biscayne Boulevard. It was a time, employees said, when it is usually crowded with schoolchildren and people getting out of work early.

The robber entered wearing a ski mask. He approached a clerk, showed his gun and demanded money, said Miami police spokesman Jeff Giordano.

A customer eyed him and the two started arguing. The customer had a concealed-weapons permit and his gun -- and the two exchanged gunfire.

The robber crumpled to the floor and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The customer, with several gunshot wounds, was in serious but stable condition at Jackson Memorial Hospital's Ryder Trauma Center.

Officers divided witnesses into several groups outside the restaurant to gather information about the incident. Employees waiting to start their shift called friends and family members on their cellphones to pass the time because they were not allowed through the police tape.

''I just hope all my people are OK inside,'' said Cynthia Thomas, who has worked at the Burger King for five years. ``It is scary.''

Around them, drivers on busy Biscayne Boulevard gawked at the scene.

The area is a prime destination for residents in the Upper East Side neighborhood -- featuring Soyka's restaurant, Sushi Siam and Andiamo Pizza.

2. The customer might need an iron lung and colostomy bag for the rest of his life but damn he probably stopped $200 from being stolen so bully for him.

I hope you are talking about the robber.
8. The hero guy had 2 realistic options:

1. If the robber doesn't start shooting anyone, then don't pull a gun on him, and just let him get away, thus not risking getting himself killed in the process.

2. If he feels that the robber is going to shoot people, then stay out of his eyesight, do not draw his attention, and just shoot him in the back a bunch of times.

Option 3, the one he chose, of getting the attention of a robber who already has a gun drawn, and yelling at the guy, and THEN pulling his gun on the robber, when the robber is already probably pointing his gun at him, is fucking retarded. There's almost no way in hell to pull this move off without getting yourself shot. The robber already has a gun pointed at you. Don't you get it? If he sees you drawing your gun, he will shoot you while you are drawing your gun. DU-uuuuuhhhh...
9. I don't disagree with a lot of people's sentiment here, I just thought it was an interesting story.

10. The armed citizen should be convicted of manslaughter. Yes I guess if the robber got out of control it would be good for someone to have a gun but to go out of your way to instigate the guy, that is wrong and he should go to jail.
11. I'm not. Watch this

Scenario 1: Vigilante Doesn't Start Shootout

Robber comes up to counter, points his gun at cashier, says "Gimme the money." Cashier gives robber $200 (or however much is in the drawer). Robber runs away, is probably caught soon thereafter. Insurance recoups BK's losses. No one is hurt.

Scenario 2: Vigilante Starts Shootout

Robber comes up to counter, points his gun at cashier, says "Gimme the money." Vigilante pulls his gun, says "I don't think so, pal." Robber turns and points gun at vigilante. The two shoot at each other. Robber is killed, vigilante is critically wounded. Stray bullets from their battle endanger the lives of everyone in the store. BK keeps its $200.

you couldnt be more wrong. he probably felt his life was in danger and thats when the gunfight ensued.

I think we see who really won here.

The guy helps BK save their $200, and now has 30K in hospital bills!!!!! HOORAY!!!!!
14. he should have pulled his gun and shot the fuck in the back of the head, but seeing as even the way it went down some morans in this thread think he should get manslaughter, I can see why he didn't. lol @ having a gun and just watching as someone threatens the lives of innocents. and lol @ the choice being between letting some idiot steal $200 and getting shot. that's the choice, is it? of course not, b/c you have no idea what gunman was gonna do. what if he waited and the doosh started shooting up the place? we would be on here saying "what an idiot, you had a gun and let him shoot 17 people? f you!"
15. I think the real question still needs to be answered.

Did he have it his way?
16. Weeeeeeeeee +1 for 2nd amendment
17. don't suppose they would bring back the yumbo just for him?
18. what if the scenario is different. Say, it was the exact situation as the 911 caller in texas who's neighbors were getting robbed, and waited on the phone with operator for cops to come but they never do, and eventually goes outside to stop them when they are leaving with a bunch of shit. and i think ends up shooting both of the suspects.

Police believe at least three people were involved in the fatal robbery. Two men came into the store and a third drove the getaway car, a red Pontiac Grand Am, Meadows said.

One suspect walked into the store shortly before 8 p.m. and appeared to be “casing” it, Meadows said. He bought a cigar, looked around and left, according to video footage taken by surveillance cameras.

Five minutes later, two men returned, the footage shows. The robbers both wore white T-shirts.

One man stayed by the front door. The gunman appeared to pace nervously as he waited for a while the clerk waited on another customer, surveillance footage showed. Once the customer left, the gunman asked Roy for an item off a shelf behind the clerk, Meadows said.

While Roy went to get the item, the gunman quickly jumped through the narrow window opening of cashier’s cage, the video showed. Roy turned and rushed over to the man, who stood on the cashier’s counter and fired a shot.

Roy appeared to duck and put both hands up in defense, but was shot at least once, the footage showed. He crumpled to the floor and lay motionless while the gunman gathered at least four cigar boxes that were filled with cash and placed on a shelf below the cashier’s cage opening. The gunman went for the boxes without hesitation, leading police to believe the men knew where the money was kept.

The accomplice rushed over and gathered the boxes from the gunman before both left the store.

Roy’s death was one of three fatal overnight shootings investigated by the Fulton Medical Examiner’s office.

Investigator Mary Beth Hauptle said Carvell Booker, 28, of Atlanta died at Grady Memorial Hospital after being shot about 8:30 p.m. in the 400 block of Chappell Road in northwest Atlanta. Atlanta police Sgt. Lisa Keyes said that witnesses told detectives that Booker was standing outside an apartment building when a car drove up and a man got out and started fighting with Booker.

“The suspect then pulled out a handgun and shot the victim and ran from the scene on foot,” Keyes said. “The complex was searched for the suspect without success.”

In another incident, Aaron McAdory, 22, of East Point, died at the scene of a 2:30 a.m. shooting on Penrose Drive in East Point, Hauptle said.

East Point police Det. Chris Chandler said the victim was a passenger in a vehicle when he was shot in the chest. A suspect was taken into custody shortly after the shooting, Chandler said. The suspect’s name has not been released. Chandler said the circumstances surrounding the shooting were still being investigated late Monday morning.

22. armed robbers are unpredictable, and often shoot for no reason... just sayin

and who knows how this went down anyway? lol @ convicted for manslaughter - we don't even know what happened yet... we just know there were shots exchanged

23. Its kinda hard to comment on w/o actually being there, but I think I'm in the camp of not letting the guy kill others before taking him down.

also, Jackson Memorial Hospital's Ryder Trauma Center <-- been there twice and once by helicopter!
24. Nobody in this thread has even considered the deterrent this guy's actions might have on the next loser-crackhead considering armed robbery.... he could have saved uncounted innocent lives in the future because he did take on the bad guy at his own peril....
25. I have a conceal and carry permit and I can say if I was in this situation with my gun on me I would just sit there and sip my chocolate shake, just as stated above let the crackhead get his $200 and be on his way...lmao at pulling my piece out and tring to save burger king a couple hundred bucks

Most loser crackheads are not known for using sound logic in their decision making process, especially while in desperate need of a fix.

Anyone who either eats at, or robs a BK deserves to be shot, Hero should be able to fill his C-bag with Burger King for free for the rest of his life as a reward.
27. LOL @ all of you wanting this guy charged, no fucking clue at all.

NOW, IF the guy came in and never showed his gun, we have one thing. Look, guy comes in, nobody has described his mindset, actions, mood and such. This guy (for all those know that want the OTHER guy charged) could have been screaming bloody hell and pulls his gun out, at that point you are foolish to think it is merely for show and he will get what he wants and leave, nobody will get hurt. Perps, crackheads and general dumbasses who pull this shit often shoot the others who do not resist them at all. Have you stopped to think if the robber was in a calm mood and his thought processes were all clear? Of course not, the POS was robbing the damn joint.

Everyone is MMQB'ing this without knowing what really happened and the sequence of events, thus the police separating everyone and interviewing the groups. Citizens with CCW permits are not looking for action of such, but you can damn sure make a point that the actions of that man against the robber could very well have saved lives, at least the only person died was the person that should have.
28. If I am in that situation I shoot the bad guy iff I think there is a probability of the bad guy killing somebody. There is no way I could live with myself if the bad guy shoots and kills somebody because I did not use my hand gun to eliminate the threat.

I would sleep like a a baby if I ever have to kill a baddie in an effort to save someone's life.

If every burger king had a guy like this then nobody would ever rob a burger king again.
29. Like miamnole said, it's hard to comment on a short article that is likely inaccurate. However, even if it's half true, give the shooter the key to the city imo. Fuck the scumbag robber/could be killer.
