So I need some OT help, I'm thinking about getting a new Audi S4. This is my first new car, and I know it's a terrible investment ect.. But I just graduated last May and I have the extra money so why not. It has an msrp of $56,850 what should I offer? Like I said I've never bought a new car or haggled on pricing.
Phantom black, prestige edition with 6-speed
Titanium package, with carbon fiber inlays, and alcantara seats
Anyone have any experience with Audi? They offer a service plan for ~$850, is that worth getting? I've done some searching and I think the invoice is just under $53k. Haven't talked any numbers yet with the dealer, they are trying to get it from another dealer and they are being difficult I guess. Drove a silver one that was in the showroom last week and loved it, but think I like the black better. -
Audi's a maintenance whore.
Don't -
my wife has a tt roadster and loves it
audi's quality is amaing, we have never had a single problem with it.
service, purchase, and maintenance is/was flawless
We didnt buy "new", she chose to get the "demo" we ended up saving like 6K or something.
well built cars and the s4 is quick as shit and looks great. solid choice. -
LOL not true. I bought an S4 three years ago with 28,000 miles on it and haven't had to do any maintenance other than tires, oil changes, etc...
To the OP, I would look at used S4's as well. You should be able to get one with under 50k miles for under 30K. If you buy one through the dealer you still get an Audi waranty.
S4 is fast. Damn thing has the engine from the A8 packed into the body of the A4. There is so little room for the engine that they scrapped the timing belt and put a timing chain in the S4. My car moves.Originally Posted by smokerock247

my last car was an 06 audi a4. I had terrible service in their service depts (2 different locations). Audi of America is the biggest load of crock of a company.
My windshield was crack on day of delivery, so they "replaced" it day of delivery. no biggie.
fast forward 2 months later, my rearview falls off. I drive an hour and half to get it "glued" back on.
fast forward 1 month, it fell off again, this time took a chunk of windshield with it. Drove to my original purchased dealership, they claimed in punched my windshield and ripped off the rearview / windshield myself. I told them you think I have that much time to drive 2-1/2 hours to chicago just to get a new windshield because I didn't like my old one?
Escalated claim to Audi of America. Regional rep came by and said I ripped if off myself.
Fuck that company. -
Buy an S5. Only losers get an S4
-
People who know that police pull over four door cars less often than two door cars get S4's...

Is buying new really that bad? I mean obv it I want to sell it a week later I'll lose money, but I'm going to keep it for a while and they seem to hold their values pretty well.

I think I like the 4 doors on the S4, just more practical as a daily driver and doesn't beg to be pulled over as much. lol
And it doesn't have the V8 anymore, it's a supercharged V6. Better mpg as a daily driver and more torque than an m3 when asked. It is crazy powerful and sounds awesome.
Edit: And how much should I pay? They offered me $3,200 to trade my current car, 06 dodge stratus with 84k miles. Thought I might offer $55k but include the care package and give $4k for my trade? Thats really $53,400 to high or low, I'm a noob at this. -
eww... I'd buy a used one with the V8. If mpg is a concern then you shouldn't be buying one anyways. And yeah, I'd go used. Holds its value much better. You can buy an Audi certified used car and it comes with a warranty on top of any manufacturers waranty that's still left. I ended up with a little over three years' warranty on my car from that.

New engine has like 10 fewer horsepower but more torque than the V8. And the sound of the supercharger is amazing.

Don't think you'll get much of a deal on an S4. Probably will have to pay close to sticker price.
I was about to buy an A3 this time last year, but guy wouldn't move more then $500 bucks of sticker, so I walked. -
Never had a supercharger so not sure what they are like. I do know I preferred having my V8 over a V6 turbo. Just love always having power and not needing to wait for the turbo to kick in. Makes acceleration much smoother too.

Anyone looking for a used 1997 Ford escort?
-
Audi - the car that says I like German engineering and I have a vagina.
bmw brah -
Quattro brah
-
First offer - invoice minus 15%. Looking to get it for invoice minus 5%. If they don't tell you your first offer is crazy then it wasn't low enough.

Just spent the last 10minutes customising my own S4 on their website after just wanting to see which car you were talking about. Goddammit I can't wait to have a job

I went by the BMW dealer after driving the auid. Tried the 335 but not the all wheel drive version because they didn't have one. Liked the Audi much more than the BMW. Don't get me wrong the BMW was pretty killer, but it didn't have the power or acceleration compared to the S4. And it was a coupe and I'm a fan of having the room of the 4 door. And like the alcantara seats with the look of carbon fiber over wood.
-
just playin' I'm a bimmer guy to the core. There are a LOT more older BMWs on the road in Europe than Audis. If you are not planning to keep it beyond warranty coverage it is a fine choice.
-
Preferring the 4 door disqualifies you.

This. WTF OP? If you do indeed have 57k I would hope you could find better use for it than a car unless you have a trust fund or something and 57k is nothing. I hope you aren't planning on taking out a $900 car payment or something stupid like that.
-
I am planning to put 20% down and finance the rest, I just graduated and have a 2 bedroom apartment and other than rent, cable, ins, and phone have no real expenses. Even with a $1k car payment I'm still spending less than half my salary and that's after maxing out my 401k, which I do before I even get my check.
Like I said, I realize it's not the best investment lol -
No no a $1k payment plus all my other expenses total less than half my take-home pay, sorry.

Ahhh that makes a big difference. I still think you'll regret it big time but I would imagine you could find a loan if that's the case. I guess to each their own but I sure as hell would be saving for a house in a down market over buying a car like that but I understand some people are car people.

Yep. House first. Car second -
Well I don't really want a house right now, the upkeep ect.. Plus I may have to relocate due to work in the next few years. I've always heard to not buy a house unless you are going to live there 5+ years. I'm looking around at some tho and can't really find anything I like, I may end up trying to build one in the next few years if I know I don't need to relocate.
