    i cant stand the guy but is "sloppy seconds" really as bad as people are making it out to be? i dont really understand it and keep waiting for the reporters to bust out laughing when they discuss it. it even got the "some viewers might not want to listen" comment on espn.

    It seems pretty hypersensitive IMO. I know Avery is a primadonna, but shoot, an indefinite suspension over essentially bulletin board material? Yikes.

    It was broadcast last night on TSN sportsdesk. Basically, he orchestrated the interview so he could get a shot in while on camera about people taking his "sloppy seconds". The Dallas management said if they NHL didn't suspend him, they would have done it themselves.

    The guy is a total douche.

    Avery's an idiot and deserved the suspension. No offense that's pretty shitty player conduct and brings bad attention on the league.

    Indefinite suspension in the NHL can mean only 1 game a lot so it's not like he's being permabanned or anything. Plus the player he said it about Dion Phenumf (sp.?) would have absolutely fuckin killed him so we may have avoided the first ever NHL homicide on ice.

    Avery is a cocksucker no doubt but it's absurd to be suspended for saying what he did. It was actually pretty funny.

    Couldnt disagree with you here more Futon... While it my be considered abit crass what he said, the NHL needs more players like him. They obviously have no skill in Marketing their superstars like Iginlia, Malkin etc So they may aswell have some Asshats that will bring some attention and spice to the League. The NHL cant afford to sensor there outspoken players to this degree in their current state. And for god sake its the only sanctioned sport in which they allow the players to get into an actual fist fight during the game but a guy cant make a remark about somenes girlfriend?

    Avery kind of strikes me of a more colorful/voguish Claude Lemeiuex.

    I couldn't agree with you more about the NHL's marketing sucking. For starters they should have players not wearing helmets during shootouts to get more face recoginizition. I know the old adage that any attention is good attention but Avery's an assclown.

    Avery might be a more outspoken Claude Lemieux.. But Claude was a hell of a hockey player.. And clutch.. I know he was 'the most hated player in the league' But I know he broke 30 goals a bunch of times and won alot of cups and scored 80 goals in the postseason with a Conn Smythe Trophy.

    for the record i never said he wasnt a dousche, i just think the suspension is terrible for something this small and this would of never even made sportscenter if he didnt get suspended.

    This is complete overreaction by the league, horribly run i h8 bettman, They def need players like Avery, the love to hate guy that brings people to the rink. If this is more than a 2 game suspension I will be really pissed. What he said was halla funny especially for the age group that the NHL should be going for, 12-35 male.

    Bettman is a 65yr old girl who hates hockey, funny or fighting f him.

    And Milan Lucic will be a very good player, but if you're going to be an agitator, you better fight you lil pussy,

    Lucic fights all the time.

    But why the fuck should he fight Laracque (if your talking about what I think your talking about) in a 0-0 game in the first period? Lucic is a 1st line winger while Laracque is a 5 minute a game enforcer. It was pretty shitty of Guy to keep sending Laracque after him when it was clear he wasn't going to fight at that point

    Avery is no doubt a complete douche, lacking even a sliver of class.

    He's an above average player. He does only fight middle weights and runs from the big fighters, thats why Don Cherry doesn't like him.

    With that said, I don't see how it is POSSIBLY bad for the NHL. I'm in Detroit and today was the first time I've heard anything on sports radio regarding hockey, that was more than a Wings game recap.

    The next Dallas vs. Calgary game will be easily double whatever the ratings would have been otherwise.

    If anything, the league prevented an immediate beatdown by Phaneuf, but ensured awesome publicity and ratings for their next meeting. Can't wait.

    I agree that this is good for the NHL. Makes me wonder whether Bettman only suspended Avery in order to get more publicity. Nevermind, Bettman's a moron no way he is that insightful.

    I live in Calgary and it would have been nice to let Phaneuf beat the living crap out of Avery. But how does he increase attendance, he's a shitty player who only gets any attention because he makes moronic comments. He is not at all a good player, at least not to me, in my eyes you have to crack at least the 70 point mark before your considered good. Avery is a loser who has never cracked the 40 point mark.

    He was a nobody until a few years ago he made some douchebag comments and then got some attention and now he uses that for publicity. People might read about him or listen on the radio but he will never but asses in the seats.
    I do agree with everyone on the Bettman is a moron point though. He is the worst thing to happen to hockey.

    unlike basketball and football, hockey players, although they do not all ways conduct themselves in a proper manner when out. they take care of things in house and do so very strictly. like a fraternity. no thug life bs.

    i think crossing the line line of family and or loved ones is the reason for his harsh suspension. the stars even said they would have done it if the league didn't.

    hull gave avery the keys in detroit averys rookie year, and speaks highly of his skill and the grit/edge he puts in his game. known as one of the hardest workers off ice, and in the off season also, constantly working to improve his game. hull let him stay in his house as a rookie in detroit with the wife etc. that in itself says a lot.

    like all the other great instigators you hate em if they are on the other team love em if they are on yours. unlike others he has talent+ weather you agree or not. and he has a hi profile publicist hmmm
