  1. I lost my job today!

    Here's a little backstory

I started working at a convenience store in April of 2009 I worked hard, but the manager didn't like me. I worked real hard (come in for sick people, come in when I'm sick, etc) and became one of the assistant managers, about late 2010 we get a new manager and she doesn't like me, but her and the District manager are buddy buddy, all of a sudden I'm getting all kinds of write ups for stupid things (Like I didn't chop vegetables for the pizza person while working kitchen or forgetting to clock in just petty things), so I get a write up like 2 months ago because my alarm didn't go off and i was 20 minutes late. Then this tuesday as i was getting ready for work I was getting my son up to go to the babysitter, he throws up on me and I have to change his clothes and my clothes, I text my boss to let her know what was up and that i'd be late. I work yesterday and then I get a call "I need you to come to the store" "OK" so I go to the store, I get terminated for being late...and get this there is a lady that works there that is Late for her shift about 5 minutes EVERYDAY!

It just sucks cuz i prolly won't even get unemployment or anything...Anybody in OT got advice?
  2. what about corporate america does this story have to do with?

  4. story, bro cool
  5. Sorry that you lost your job.

But convenience stores are not Corporate America.

  6. the corporation must have sent your job overseas
  7. because it's a bigger corporate midwest chain...they don't care if the employee's actually work hard...they'll just find someone else

  8. advice,

don't make excuses and show up on time/early, nobody cares that your kid gets sick or that you don't know how to properly set your alarm clock
  9. Go work at another convenience store?
I also love the people who believe they've done nothing to deserve being disliked by a manager. I'm sure you knew you were supposed to do the things you were written up for. Sucks that that was the final straw because that obviously wasn't your fault but seriously, if you have a kid you should always plan on being ready 30 mins before you actually need to be.
  10. This thread should be called Entitled America.
  11. I admit that the alarm was my fault...but the other was out of my control...

Sorry i just wanted to rant to someone

  12. "so I get a write up like 2 months ago because my alarm didn't go off and i was 20 minutes late"

your alarm made you late? lol, take some responsibility for yourself. How can you get points for extra credit, if you don't do your regular job right?
  13. Rename thread to nobody likes me.
  14. sorry about the job loss.

if it's part of a large corporate chain, you could consider putting together a letter to head office explaining your situation just to get it out there. Ask them if they have a corporate policy on employee relations and termination procedures. Seeing that they began documenting against you in 2010, chances are you won't have a positive result but its worth a shot.
  15. I went and apply for Unemployment, but with my luck it'll be no luck

  16. Get yourself into Business/Sales ASAP
    Work your ass off
    Make money
    ????????????
    Cash checks/profit
  17. Sounds like you need a reality check.
Have some accountability and responsibility for your own actions and grow up a little, having a job isn't like going to school when you are 10 years old. Just from reading that (very short) description of the situation and events in OP, I am not in the LEAST bit suprised you were terminated, and deservedly so.

None of your reasons for your being late or your shortcomings in performance are valid reasons. They are excuses (reasons if you want to call them that), sure, but they are in no way justified.
I would also suggest this is probably why you were supposedly disliked. In most cases, a 'hard working' employee who is helpfull in covering shifts will ALWAYS be liked...
    Self reflection ftw

  21. Sorry ya lost your job...

For all the flamers... they are OH!! so much better than you and have accepted responsibility for every unfortunate incident in their life that was caused my their "alarm". Plez.

Life is for living and learning. Take the good from this job and find yourself a work environment that fits better with you lifestyle.

It's tough times out there so I wish you good luck in your next endeavor.

  22. i cant believe how many itt havent ever been late for work.

a kid throwing up on u as u walking out door, seems like a valid reason to be a few mins late.

  23. my last job, they were anal about not clocking in/out. glad to see it wasn't just them. but yea like said before, u have to do your job (cutting up veggies) and be on time or you will get fired. there are hundreds of people waiting behind you to get that job, so basically, yea, they don't give a fuck how good you work, they will fire you.
  24. trickle down effect tho

    This.
  26. I am genuinely impressed that you supported a kid on a convenience store wage. If you are able to do this you are smart enough to find another job and not screw up this time. GL

but he said he had been late before, and prob has been late other times that he is not telling us, plus he was not doing his job. the last time (baby puke) was just the straw that broke the camels back. and i really dont see how that would make him late. how long does it take to change clothes? if that made him late he was prob going to be late anyway imo. he is just making excuses.
  28. wp...

  29. I got fired once, when I was 14.
  30. Sorry you lost your job. Unfortunately, you made it pretty clear that you didn't perform basic job responsibilities. I once got fired for ejaculating in my pants during a team meeting. Fucking khakis gave me away.
