Tl;dr
0-4 today, though. I guess you guys were right, didn't take long for him to regress.... -
he's not a legit 350+ hitter? is anyone? cobb and hornsby lol
-
Lol Cobb and Hornsby, the two luckiest hitters of all time
-
The advanced metrics fellers went back and determined that the 5 best hitters of all time are:
1) Enos Cabell
2) Ted Williams
3) Joel Youngblood
4) Babe Ruth
5) Barry Bonds
I'm kinda surprised Bonds made the list tbh -
youngblood ha ha I am old enough to remember him playing for 2 different teams on the same day. Hits in both iirc.
-
Shit, good memory; I just looked him up on wiki, and here it is:

On August 4, 1982, Youngblood became the only player in history to get hits for two different teams in two different cities on the same day. After Youngblood had driven in two runs with a single in the third inning for the Mets in an afternoon game at Wrigley Field against the Chicago Cubs, he was replaced in center field by Mookie Wilson, and traded to the Montreal Expos for a player to be named later (On August 16, the Expos sent Tom Gorman to the Mets to complete the deal). Youngblood rushed to Philadelphia in order to be with his new team, and hit a seventh inning single. Interestingly, the two pitchers he hit safely against, Ferguson Jenkins of the Cubs and Steve Carlton of the Philadelphia Phillies, are both in the Baseball Hall of Fame
And here's the link!!! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Joel_Youngblood -
i was at both of those games
-
fucking umpires gifting the cardinals a win today...whatever. Oh well, 5-2 on the midwest (COL/STL) trip isnt bad, ffs lets win a homestand for a change.
-
lol ya not bad to get hits off 2 HOFers either. That was in the early days of ESPN. I imagine Sportscenter covered that pretty heavy. I also remember that being a trivial pursuit question that I snap answered and impressed everyone at the table with my vast knowledge.

Also remember seeing this all the time:
-
Remember when Ubaldo Jimenez used to be good? He was fun to watch.
-
He was good in 2010, pretty mediocre other than that year imo. I did think he was on the rise though, pretty disappointing.
-
Machado's first major league hit is a triple driven opposite field. He definitely has some pop.
-
even tho i'm a yanks fan i find myself rooting for the o's cuz they have been bad for so long and i love the city of Baltimore.
-
How often do pitchers decline when they LEAVE colorado???
BTW, if you play Daiuply Fantasy, take any lefty hitting against him...lock it up -
Was thinking about this the other day: what team would you root for if your favorite team disbanded?

Oh and +1 to Baltimore being a real cool city -
used to be Giants when they had Barry Lamar, but now it's close between the athletics and the o's for me. I guess the a's, i loved them when i was a kid and they had the bash bro's and rickey henderson. Plus I met rickey at a gas station in new york when he was on the mets. He's the fucking man, by the way. Said what up to me and everything.

Yeah, I think it's gotta be the O's for me as well; always had kinda a soft spot for the Royals as well, and that ballpark is the nuts.

he looked good tonight, k-d 10. Mind u it was against the LOLsox tho. I could see him bouncing back next year, he's still young. -
I'll be shocked if he gets close to what he used to be. I think there's an injury in there somewhere.

yeah i mean it's definitely unlikely, just saying he has flashes of brilliance amidst the suckage
-
So after going 2-4 with a triple in his major league debut, Machado is 2-3 with 2 hr's and 4 rbi's tonight. This kid might be alright....
