We are almost at the halfway point in the season. There is a good battle going on for the homerun crown. Can Joey Bats do it 3 years in a row after that awful start? Can Josh Hamiliton continue to swing the hot bat? Here are the leaders so far, who is your money on?
1. Bautista - 26 (289)
2. Hamilton - 25 (280)
3. Dunn - 24 (276)
4. Granderson - 23 (305)
5. Braun - 22 (279)
6. Encarnacion - 22 (285)
7. Ortiz - 21 (285)
8. Trumbo - 20 (263)
8. Beltran - 20 (271)
8. Cano - 20 (303)
13. Plouffe - 18 (200) Darkhorse? -
I have to stick with Joey Bats but obv Hamilton will be right there as well. I don't think anyone gets to 50 this year. My guess is the leader has 47.
-
Grandy should get to 50
-
JoeyBats gonna win it again. Finally getting protection from EE behind him.

So I couldn't swing the deal for Joey bats for wright last week, appreciate all the responses tho. Would you trade wright for trout right now? What about cano for him? 10 team $ league 3 keepers. Seems like id be getting taken but at the same time trout may be top 10 in fantasy for years to come. Nobody really keeps prospects so he would need to be top 30 every year from the get go to make sense I guess.
-
Trout has been overachieving the last 2 months, you might wanna wait until he proves he can sustain it before trading for him. Once the league adjusts and gets a book on him, he's going to struggle big time.
-
At the rate he's going Joey Bats will hit 50.

And at the rate he's going, Trevor Plouffe will hit like 97 HR's...and have like 120 RBI's. -
Joey Bats just hit 27
-
The top half of the blue jays is just inhuman. really sucks that they incurred so many SP injuries bc thats a team that i would love to watch in october.
-
Garrett Jones and Neil Walker just hit back-to-back homers, both off of the right field foul pole. I wonder if that's the first time that has happened in baseball history. No idea.
-
If anyone thinks the Pirates are going to collapse, I'd like to wager some money that the Bucs finish the season above .500. Any takers?
I'll also bet the Pirates make the playoffs if I can get odds. -
Man I can't believe this offensive production from the Pirates! Maybe we should get a SP.
-
I've been thinking the same thing. I assume the asking prices of Hamels and Greinke would be too high, but there might be someone else out there we could grab. If we did somehow grab one of those two, I think the Bucs become the favorite to win the division, and serious contenders in October. A top 3 of Hamels/ Greinke, J-Mac, and Burnett is no joke.

I guess Cutch is OK. He returned to the lineup and went 4-for-5. -
Holy shit they are talking to Dmitri Young at the Reds/LAD game and he looks like he lost 300 lbs.
-
No way in hell would I bet against the Pirates. They might fade off a bit but I think they stay in it til the end. Love the future of that team.

I was just talking about this the other day, in a game earlier this year two guys hit a pole but it wasn't back to back. Ask Tim Kurkjian -
saw in the game recap notes that it's the first time back-to-back HR's have hit the foul pole since that started being tracked in 2000. Obv lots of MLB games were played before 2000 so I guess we'll never know. It also didn't mention the same foul pole, so I assume the stat means either one.

Go Buccos! -
What about their offense? It's pretty fucking dismal regardless of them putting up 11 on the lowly Astros.

Besides Cutch, what steady stream of hitting do they have that can sustain more than a month? -
Billy Hamilton just recorded his 100th steal of the season. He's on pace for 170 this year.
-
Interesting that you ask, because there are rumors that our top hitting prospect, OFer Starling Marte, is supposed to be called up any day now. He should be an upgrade in left field. He's a true center fielder, but he won't move Cutch over, and left field at PNC Park is huge, so having two CFers makes sense.

The Pirates could use an upgrade in the rotation or the lineup. Since the Bucs basically went from the worst offense in baseball in April and May to the best offense in baseball in June, the offense became less of a dire need. We could certainly use a 1B or corner OF upgrade, but replacing that fifth starting pitcher with an ace would improve the team just as much, and make them competitive in October, if they managed to make the playoffs. -
Hey Pgh what's the timeline on Cole? Will he be in the rotation next year?
-
He just got promoted to AA a few weeks ago. If everything goes as planned, he'll start next season in AAA, then hopefully make it to the Majors next summer.
-
That rotation is going to be pretty disgusting when Cole and Appel get called up.

I forgot about Taillon too. -
those two deserve it, but yu darvish wins in a landslide in the AL, and the NL will prob come down to harper and chipper. really want to see chipper get in and pull a ripken in his last ASG.
