lol howard back to save season lol
-
Not my closer. What a waste of money. LOL @ all-star.
-
poor phils :(
-
Jfc giants. That is all
-
Trout doing work again tonight for my 5x5 league. 1-1 2 RBI 2 R 3SB. He's ridiculous.

Kinda feel compelled to mention the Bucs just swept the Astros in a four game series. The Bucs are 10-1-1 in their last 12 series. That is dominance. I can't believe what I'm seeing TBH.
Bucs seem like good bets to take 2 out of 3 against the Giants this weekend. We pitch Bedard/J-Mac/Burnett and avoid Cain. -
So Wanta, how long until I can make a Pirates thread in the main OT page? September OK?
Pretty sure I'm gonna have to make it to San Diego in late August for the Padres-Bucs series. -
Remember in this thread http://www.pocketfives.com/f13/baseb...6-22-a-662653/ when I said that:
1. The Nationals were a better team than the Phillies and offered to bet on the the Nats vs. the Phillies in total wins this year
2. Cliff Lee was not the stud Phillies fans think he is and that he could not provide whatever the Phillies need in addition to Halladay (without Halladay as it turns out) to stay competitive in the NL East
3. Jose Reyes is on the decline and will never match his 2011 numbers again and that MIA was in the wrong to pay him the way they did
Remember that? I got fucking ripped apart for these views, especially the opinion on Lee and was basically called out for not know what I was talking about. Well, turns out, at least at the halfway point of the year, I was pretty spot on in all my opinions on individual players. I did say at one point that I thought the Marcum etc. for Lawrie etc. trade may not be the great deal for TOR that Lawrie lovers thought it was but I can admit defeat on that. Marcum was having a pretty decent year but Lawrie is a great young player and I would trade a above average 2/3 SP for him any day (admitting defeat on almost my exact words from the previous thread). And before someone throws a bunch of sabermetric numbers at me that Lee is having a great year and just running bad or some bullshit, he has 1 (one) (ONE) win 3 days before the All-Star break. 'Nuff said. So yeah, just wanted to come back at the midway point to say that I was right and that all Philly fans can eat shit. Nats baby!!! -
.
if the Pirates dont sweep the Giants theres no way they are good enough to make the playoffsOriginally Posted by Pghfan987

Bold prediction regarding Reyes. In related news, I predict that Andrew McCutchen will not hit .360 for the rest of his career.
-
Lol, I agree. I said that Reyes was on the decline, his 2011 numbers were thrown in my face. But going from a BA of .337 to his current .268 and being on pace to score less runs in a full season (160+) than he did last year in 126 games is a little more than a slight regression from a career year. Since he is at least looking capable of playing a full year for the first time since 2008, is it taking too much of a leap to say that the last 4 years of injury plagued seasons has taken its toll on him and that last year was an aberration as opposed to the norm?

A great ESPN article on what you need to know to become a bandwagon Pirates fan: http://espn.go.com/blog/playbook/fan...andwagon-guide Probably my favorite quote:
After being banished from New York, A.J. Burnett is in the midst of his best season since he was a Toronto Blue Jay. The Pirates got him in exchange for two mediocre prospects, plus the Yankees still have to pay 58 percent of his contract through next season. If you are considering jumping aboard the Pirates bandwagon, that means you like underdogs. That also means you probably despise the Yankees. It might still be unlikely that the Pirates play deep into October, but we all can agree that Burnett beating the Yankees in the World Series -- while still earning big money from them -- would be close to the greatest baseball thing ever.

danimal - i think ur cliff lee point is still far off. He's been bad this year, but not horrible and pretty unlucky. Plus he's playing for the shit bird phils. I'd bet a lot of money his era is in the low 3's by season end. Good call on the nat's, not sure i agree on reyes being "on the decline". He'll be okay by seasons end. Doubt he's worth the money tho.

dude, lee is a fuckin boss. you're retarded. lee has a 1.19 whip and 3.98 era in an off year, not too bad...and to put your stupid wins comment in perspective, lance lynn has a 1.23 whip and 3.41 era and has 11(eleven)(ELEVEN) wins. any gm or knowledgeable fan would snap take lee over just about anyone but maybe 4 or 5 guys in the league

and pretty easy to come in here acting all "told ya so" about saying the nats would have more wins than the phils when they lose their ace and utley and havnt had howard.
and way to go out on a limb and say someone will never repeat their CAREER YEAR. -
LOL Minor League baseball. I hope someone enjoys this as much as I did. This video describes a Minor League hitting challenge for their All-Star break. Skip to 2:30 if you are pressed for time.

Spot on. Unless you consider every player who has already had their career year, or has a down year after signing a big contract is "on the decline", then that's the wrong term for Reyes. Say he's overpaid all you want, but on the decline is not what's going on. If he was, then he'd be in line to hit around .250 next year....not gonna happen.

And LOL @ "end of story" based on a pitchers wins. Doesn't even warrant a counter-argument. You don't even need to look at sabermetrics to see that he's pitching a hell of a lot better than his record would dictate. Go into sabermetrics, and it looks even better for him. -
hit walk out out walk walk slam.....
and I LAUGHED...yep ive given up on the phillies. -
Only the Yankees and Red Sox can play 4 hour 9 inning games. Even the other MLB games that score this many runs take way less time.

What do you guys think is Mike Trouts keeper league value? Normal 5x5 league and get to keep players for 4 years total.
Right now I have offers for Dickey, Greinke, and a 2 for 1 of James McDonald and Michael Morse. I also have a verbal offer for Verlander at the trade deadline. Am I overvaluing him by feeling I can get more? -
GG red sox, nice season
Edited By: AMARTIN1181 Jul 7th, 2012 at 08:53 AM
for real tho everyone went nuts on pujols for not hitting jacks, a-gon has 6 home runs all year. Pretty quiet from sawx fans this year. -
Way to soon to right off the redsox. Their only 3 games out of a wildcard spot and we havent even hit the allstar break yet.
And no reason to be on Gonzalez. Hes rolling right now, 16 game hitting streak hitting like 360 during that span. Not to mention the sox are second in the league in runs scored for the season.
Gonzalez is not the problem. -
No. He's been the highest rated fantasy player since his callup, and only Hamilton, McCutchen, Cargo, and Braun have been more valuable over the entire season. He's been the most valuable over the last 30, 14, and 7 days, too. I don't think there's any one player I trade him for in a keeper league right now.

That's all I needed to hear. I think it will take at least 1 of the 4 you mentioned in a package deal for me to seriously consider any offers.

So Xbox emailed me and said Mlb.tv is free this weekend. But I can't seem to get it to work. Anyone else try this?
