LOL - So Friday there's a report that Carlos Villanueva may be pulled out of the rotation at some point, because the Jays want to keep innings from getting out of hand. Today there's a report that Villanueva has left the team, and they've called up a guy from the minors to take his place.

good for him. fuck them. let the guy pitch, he has been doing well. lol @ JA Happ

so you are saying I should drop him from my fantasy team?
12 ER in 34.1 IP as a starter. 35 K and 10 BB -
Yeah, he's been great. I gotta dump him too lol; sounds like even if he does come back, it's gonna be back in the pen.

I don't know what the reports have said, but Blue Jays broadcasters have said he flew home to take care of a family matter. Brett Cecil was sent to Vegas recently, that's who JA Happ is replacing in the rotation. Chad Jenkins (the guy called up from the minors) is replacing Jesse Chavez (who was DFA'd last night). I would expect Villaneuva to pitch in the rotation the rest of the season, he's been our best starter. I don't see any rationale and haven't heard anything about Villaneuva being pulled from the rotation, he himself has said he prefers starting and with the way he has performed, I don't see why they wouldn't continue to allow him to do that.

Villanueva may not remain in the starting rotation for the remainder of the season as the team keeps tab of his workload, the team's official site reports.
Spin:
The Jays want to get back J.A. Happ back into a starting role and have Brandon Morrow and Drew Hutchison working their way back from injuries so they may decide to move Villanueva into a swing role to limit his workload. "Based on our experience in the last year and a half with [Villanueva], I think he's a very valuable pitcher to be able to provide a swingman role," manager John Farrell said. "And that's not to say he's not a capable starter, but the thing that we can't overlook is the durability on a long-term basis. There's a point where the physical component has got to be monitored very closely." -
Boston on verge of blowing another 9th inning lead.

Not gonna lie, Im impressed they had a lead that late in a game.

Interesting. I'd say this is probably a function of his past three starts, which have been respectable, but he hasn't pitched great, possibly a sign of fatigue. I still don't expect him to get the hook from the rotation for a while, if ever, maybe they'd skip a start. Our rotation is so depleted. I hope they wouldn't, but if it's health, that's a bit different.

1. Romero is clearly holding his spot all year.
2. Henderson Alvarez (has been terrible, but no indication they are going to remove him)
3. Carlos Villaneuva
4. Aaron Laffey (getting owned in Oakland today and overall just not a good pitcher, has pitched admirably though)
5. JA Happ (Personally I expect him to get rocked)
6. Morrow back within 10 days. I guess they will put him in Villaneuva's spot, but it's hard to justify when Laffey is so bad.
7. Hutchison, I don't expect to be a factor for atleast a month. I would have guessed this would be when Villaneuva would lose his spot, but even then, he's pitched so well.
Basically, I have no idea, but doesn't seem to make much sense, and I wouldn't necessarily drop him until it's official. -
