This explains it pretty well. He's actually hit leadoff the last 4 games. It seems its not about getting on base, or home runs. Just something to break out of a slump that he was in. And he's done well in those games. Just something to change his mentality.
  2. 3 run walk off...

    All Star catcher....A.J. Ellis.
  3. I suppose if a Cubs fan gets too drunk at a game this year, he or she can just tell anybody who gives them trouble that they were trying to forget about the team's struggles.

They can't even beat Pittsburgh, where the offense is inept at historic levels. (Only one team in the history of baseball ever struck out three times more than they walked. The Pirates currently strike out four times for every walk.)

And then, to lose by hitting a batter.

Dale Sveum's quote after the game about Dolis was funny: "He's throwing scuds and stuff all over the place."
  4. When you play the Bucs, it's going to be a dead ball era game, that's for sure. Our rotation is very good, our bullpen is filthy.

I know the Bucs are an easy target, given their history, but they are a league average team right now, certainly no easy victory. The Bucs have had the hardest strength of schedule for any team outside the AL East, and we have faced an absurd amount of aces. There are 19 starting pitchers in the NL with an ERA below 3 - the Bucs have faced 15 of them already. That's ridiculous.

  5. I've been a Pirates fan all my life. My first favorite player was Willie Stargell. I think it's selfish to keep bringing up our piece-of-shit team in a thread to discuss the entirety of Major League Baseball.

I just thought Sveum's quote about the scuds was funny.
  6. Really? I guess you don't understand how an internet forum works. I have almost 10 K posts on this forum. I'm a diehard Pittsburgh sports fan. My fucking screen name is Pghfan. I post what I am thinking, period. If people are tired of hearing me talk about my favorite baseball team in the OT baseball thread, they can ignore me. I don't give a shit.

Besides, having posters being fans of different teams is what makes this thread interesting. I know Wantagolf is a Padres fan, AMartin is a Yankees fan, Gamma is an Angels fan, Quietwinner is a Cards fan, etc, etc. I expect those people to make posts ITT mostly about their teams, not to divide their posts equally among their favorite team and the other teams that they don't follow closely.

You would too you suit on anyone who doesn't win when you want them to. Pick a team and stick with it win or lose.
  10. well one of the reasons some of those pitchers have eras under 3 is due to facing the pirates so many times.

maybe as a back up to this guy:

  12. Here comes help.

Quentin likely to fly to Chicago to join the team Monday. More on http://Padres.com soon.

Sounds like we could see Carlos Quentin at Wrigley Field, said Bud Black.

It's funny to think of how deep NL catcher has been this year yet McCann, Montero, and Molina won't even get any AS consideration. I think right now Ruiz starts the ASG backed up by Lucroy, with Ellis and Posey (in that order) having a shot to get in as well. The popularity vote will probably screw the whole thing up though, and we'll end up with McCann starting with Ruiz backing up.

  14. Felile paulino with a strong start to the year. Finally nice to see some promise from a young pitcher.

wp sir wp. And true as well
  16. Joey Votto looked like a beer league softball player when he hit that home run off of Moyer. He was scooting up in the box as the pitch was coming to the plate.
  17. Moyer is the Rockies 2nd starter too looool. If white, pomeranz, and friedrich don't develop somewhat this season. This might be an all time worst pitching staff.

  20. Moyer still has a better ERA than Lincecum

  21. lol at that hr by Todd Frazier. Just threw the bat at the ball.
  22. Holy shit at that Todd Frazier home run, never seen that shit in my life. The bat flew out of his hand and into the infield after making contact and still homers.
  23. Not for long.
  24. Johnny Damon with a 3 run blast. Who'd thunk.

  25. 8 HRS not even through 6 at the GABP. Solid park.

Cause you keep playing the Nats. Cant wait until Storen comes back.

In regards to "Natitude": (earlier this year)
"The team has started introducing players to the new campaign, asking them to design t-shirts that express their own particular Natitude. Drew Storen has already come up with his concept, featuring the phrase “Attention fans, the bottom of the 9th has been canceled.”

Dickey had 1 bad start this year on Atlanta when it was raining and he said he couldn't grip the ball properly. If you take out that 1 start, his ERA this year is 1.87 with a 9.0 K/9. His ERA in 3 years with the Mets is 3.12. His career ERA in 7 seasons before joining the Mets was 5.48. And to top it all off, he climbed Mount Kilimanjaro in the off-season. He's quietly been baseball's 2nd best renaissance story the last 3 years (Joey Bats right?).

  29. The Reds dont lose on Sundays.
  30. Melky 4-4 with 3 runs, hr, RBI and 2 sb today. Right now he should be starting in the asg.

Giants begin a stretch where they don't leave the west coast until July 3rd. Only games outside of California during that stretch are 3 in Seattle.
