  1. Should Craig Biggio be elected into the Hall of Fame?

The consensus is that he is a lock. I disagree since his numbers were extremely inflated due to longevity.

    Stat: 3060 hits

This is the # 1 argument in his favor. 3,000+ hits is obv great, but it took him 20 yrs to do it. It comes out to ~150 hits per yr, which is avg.

His career BA is .281. He had > 200 hits in a season only once. He hit above .300 only 4x in 20 years. Based on those #'s, he should not even be remembered as a great hitter.

    Stat: 291 hrs

291 hrs in 20 years is not at all impressive, even for a second basemen. Dont a bunch of 2B hit ~12-15 hrs per yr?

    Stat: 7 All-Star Selections

    Year *Full Season Stats

    1991 .295 / 4 / 46

    1992 .277 / 6 / 39

    1994 .318 / 6 / 56

    1995 .302 / 22 / 77

    1996 .288 / 15 / 75

    1997 .309 / 22 / 81

    1998 .325 / 20 / 88

Only 4 of those years are even close to being All-Star worthy. Vizquel made the all-star game for defense, but Biggio does not fall into that category, so I discount his selections from 1991-94.

    Stat: 4 Gold Gloves

I dont recall him being a great defensive player. IMO this is one of the most overrated awards in MLB, since it is based on name recognition. It's so easy to keep voting in the same players year after year that make highlight catches (ie Jim Edmonds). What about the guys that make plays look easy? Tori Hunter is clearly not the best defensive CF at this point in his career, but he still seems to win the award every year.

    I say noooooo to biggiooooo.

EDIT - Now including Career averages and totals if he played X # of years. Unless you have a biased opinion, they just dont look like HOF #'s to me. Good player? Yes. One of the greats? LOLOLOL

  2. Should or shouldn't, he will be.
  3. I don't have ne opinion on this, but I am hoping Waco does - Hey Waco, whats ur feeling on this Mets game tonite? Linecum has given up some runs this year and I just think +160 looks so damn pretty taking the mets - I hate betting against Linecum but I feel this is a good spot - How you feel about Livan, I just think they are trapping me with those juicy odds, but I really wanna lay the wood - WUT?????

  6. Close call but doesn't longevity count for something? I mean having major league caliber skills for 20 years says something doesn't it? They said the same thing about Hank Aaron having a gazillion at bats that he better have the HR record (he also had a very long career. Was he catching during those early all star appearences? Stats were pretty light for catchers then no?

I say put him in... good role model for hard work and overachieving imo
  7. obv answer is NO.

he was never a premier player.
you think criag counsel should be in the HOF cus of the career he put up??? 2 WS rings. game winning hits?? no.

    come on.

and based on my serious lurking... Waco doesnt know shit about baseball. lol. he is a mets fan for gods sakes...

  9. The response has been overwhelming. Love you guys. Keep the votes coming in. Every vote counts. You all have a say. This post will be forwarded to the HOF commission via first class mail on monday morning.

Now a recap of the votes so far....
If Im interpreting the videos correctly, both Waco and Dpottz agree with me. The other 2 votes are split, so we have 1-3 for No.

  10. of course he's in
  11. He had a very respectable career and passed the hailed 3000 so I think he makes it in.

I think he was a very good player but not an all-time great. I personally don't think he is a HOFer.

Until the HOF ups the criteria and gets away from automatic entry for the milestone numbers, players such as Biggio will make it in.

you are a fucking idiot for comparing Biggio to Counsell... lmao

it's like you haven't even looked at his numbers... he will likely get in based on other catchers and 2B that are in... I don't really consider him a HOF caliber player, but his numbers are more than there

and lol @ being butt hurt for me making fun of your stupid "will the Marlins lose again" thread...

  13. Pretty sure you don't measure a lead off hitter by the amount of HRs and RBI he gets.

  14. I vote no. He's a very forgettable player imo.

TY Sir, just wanted to see what ur thoughts were, appreciate it

  19. Durability is the most important thing in baseball. Idea being you might not be the fastest, strongest, or even have the most talent, but you are on the field every day helping your team.
  20. http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/b/biggicr01-bat.shtml

Ok, how about he was a lead off hitter who would have over a .400 OBP in seasons and would generate tons of runs with his OBP and his steals? And he did it over 20 years (this is a plus, not a negative). He is in.

  21. no and i dont think its close. he was never a great player he was just a good to above average player for a real long time. all he did is compile numbers cause he played a long time w/o anytime being great.

gary sheffield was discussed on this forum before, an actual player who had stretches of greatness throughout his career is still considered a marginal HOFer. im sorry longevity means nothing to me give me greatness for 7 years over 20 years of goodness.
  22. Easily voted in HOF.....

the guy was an all-star and goldglove winner (for his defense not bat) at catcher, and 2nd base, plus when needed he played the OF, base running ,bunting, defense, 3000 hits, one of the best pure baseball players....voters eat that shit up! 1st ballot!
  23. 1st ballot no question
  24. you dont think its close that a second basemen with 4 gold gloves 1800 runs 3000 hits 650 doubles 400 steals and 300 homeruns gets in???

  25. This guy is a first or second ballot hall of famer. Look at his character, his longevity, and his tenure with one club. Not to mention his numbers and ability to play clutch ball. I hate the Astros, but you have to love Biggio. Oh. and the ladies love him. That has to count for something.

He's getting in for sure, but not for any reason you mention except numbers. Character, longevity, tenure are irrelevant. And clutch hitting doesn't exist.

    Ty for this.
  28. No. He was a very good player, not an all time great.
  29. i think it is important to take his position into the voting here. second basemen are historically not power hitters, jeff kent was really the first one (before utley and all the others that are around now), someone would have to look it up but i believe he is best power hitting second basemen ever (kent that is).

that being said, take a look at rian sandberg a second basemen and hall of famer. over an average 162 game season their stats match up almost identically! admitadly sandberg has an mvp and biggio doesn't but over their carreers the #s are extremely similar. sandberg also has i believe 4 more gold gloves, but we all know a gold glove doesn't really mean he was the best fielder. this can be proved by the fact that (at 2b) sanberg's fielding percentage over his career was .989 and biggio's was .984 that is pretty freakin close.

he will be voted in guranteed, almost for sure first ballet. as for if he SHOULD be voted in i say yes based on his postion. obviously those stats for a 1b suck, but for a second basemen they are clearly hall of fame caliber.
  30. Yes no doubt Biggio belongs in the HOF. I think Bagwell does too.
