This world series is on pace to have the lowest rating ever. Baseball needs one simple rule change to make the games more watchable.

THEY NEED A PITCH CLOCK!!! just like the shot clock basketball has...baseball needs to have a 18 second pitch clock. basketball realized back in the 1950s (not exactly sure when but a long long time ago) that the game was to boring when teams would run 4 corner offense and run 2 min off the clock.
personally i have a very hard time watching baseball. you can go literally 2 minutes between pitches. along with a 18 pitch clock they should limit how many pick off attempts the pitcher can do. One team should only be able to throw to first, second or third base 5 times a inning. These are used kind of as time outs sometimes when the pitcher is in a jam and needs a minute to get his composure back and he just throws to first 3 times in a row. it would also make games a lot more exciting if stealing bases was a little bit easier.
the "penalty" for not pitching in 18 seconds would be an automatic ball.(18 seconds might be to quick, could be 25 seconds or so)
the "penalty" for throwing to the bases over 5 times in one inning would be a free base for the runner(s).
It is not 1890 anymore. Baseball is not america's past time. MLB needs to come into the 21st century and adopt rules so the sport is watchable. -
so what if the batter steps out and calls time?
-
good point. give them 1 time to call time an at bat. i did not think it through 100% but baseball needs to do something to make the game more enjoyable to watch.

All series best of 7 >>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Any other rule change
-
the best part of playoff baseball is the slow pace of the game. if you have a rooting interest, the tension that builds during the games is incomparable to other sports.
-
lower the amount of games in a season ffs..

so 5 throws and every runner can just get a 90 ft lead.... brilliant -
So once a pitcher attempts 5 pick offs, do you just want to give the runner on 1st a free pass to 3rd or do you want to see the steals?

see if he steals. but IF the pitcher throws back a sixth time then it is the same as a balk. bawk. no idea how to spell that.

yah i understand this but not many people are true fans of the teams playing. once the big 4 or 5 teams get out the small market teams dont have many fans that care. you are seeing that with the world series. baseball HAS to start bringing in casual viewers. either way they will have the fans that love the game. -
LOL @ The OP. You're a moron.
Quit watching baseball, and please quit trying to come up with new rules for baseball. -
Obviously these ideas are coming from people who never played the game. Just stop.
-
surprised at all the hate to be honest. all the baseball lovers must have came into the thread and all the people who dont give a shit about baseball must be doing what they usually do and ignore it. if everybody felt the way you guys do then people WOULD be watching the world series guys. you guys are supporting a game that has not changed any rules in over 100 years. every other major sport has changed and changed a lot to make the product more viewer friendly.

i like this. mandatory steroid usage would be a better rule change then anything i have suggested. -
it's not really hate when your idea actually is completely fucking stupid... did you finally catch on to why at least?

you are dead on. not all pitchers would be effected by a "pitch clock." when i was watching the end of the world series game the other night the Holland guy on the rangers would get the ball and pitch very quickly. this made the end of the game a lot easier to watch. -
People are hating the idea, but if baseball doesn't do something they will be a fringe sport in 15 years. Soccer is going up, baseball is going down.
-
haha exactly.
this is what i am trying to make a rule for. in 15 years baseball is going to be the 5th sport (football, basketball, hockey, soccer) if they do nothing about it. i am not saying this rule is a good idea. i am trying to come up with a way for baseball to get casual fans to watch their lame ass games.Originally Posted by XNASTYNATEX

wow. i did not know that this was a rule. they need to enforce this 100%. this seems like one of the most important rules in the game. seems like a huge advantage for the pitcher to stand there for over a minute and collect himself, rest, focus, etc before making a pitch to the batter who is just standing there waiting. -
Why don't they dont use a sofball and pitch underhanded and mix girls with the guys, make it a beer league, and play games at local city parks.
Let's use a batting tee and let everyone bat and not keep score.. -
I rarely watch baseball (Sunday night was the first full game I saw all year), so it isn't people hating on you because want to see something changed, it's because your idea couldn't make sense in practice. I would like baseball to speed up, but your suggestion of how is LOL bad.
What NickC posted should be enforced, and is a good example of a rule that could be implemented to speed up the game. Also, less time between innings, though that won't get changed because of commercial money.
For the baseball players out there, how long does a pitcher really need to warm up between innings? And how long do they give him in the majors?
