Be it high school, college, NBA or playground, those of us who love it can celebrate the greatest game here My first basketball hero was this
Edited By: SluggerWV Nov 24th, 2011 at 02:16 PM
The guy I imagined being on the playground was

I remember thinking there was no way a tiny little school beat the mighty Ralph Sampson led Cavaliers when reading about it the next day in the papers

and I met Deniz Kilicli yesterday He's the one on the left

When I was young, WVU making the Final Four seemed impossible Thank you Da'Sean

Basketball leads itself to some great pictures
Share some of those from your past or that are memories you will carry with you always
Happy Thanksgiving

Wish I could've seen him play live -
Was captain of my HS basketball team. Senior year we were pretty good (19-5) but got knocked out of the states in the second round by a team we had previously beat. Worst day of my HS years. Got to play against some pretty decent players. The first that comes to mind is Alaa Abdelnaby. Played him twice. In his junior year (my sophomore year), we were told he was being recruited by Duke. After the game I can remember thinking how bad he was. His shots were all bricks. Tripping over his own feet. Played the game like it was a rugby match. Thought to myself, "if that's all it takes to be recruited by Duke, I should be getting the call from Coach K at any time." Fast Forward a year. I don't know what happened, but dude turned into a stud. Put up 45 on us. Blocked at least 10 and grabbed at least 15 boards. I then stopped waiting for a call.

Played against Chris Jent in summer leagues. Nothing really remarkable about him. Great shot, but in high school there always seemed to be one kid on a team that could shoot lights out.

My Junior year, our team traveled to Florida to play a couple games where we came across Ocala Vanguard and Travis Mays. Human highlight reel. He was unbelievable as was the team. Their worst player would have been the star on our team. We got blown the fuck out but I did take a charge on Travis Mays so I got that going for me, which is nice.

Also got to play a game in the Meadowlands before a Nets game. We got beat but a pretty nice memory to have. -
This is sort of ironic...I was going to create a post and ask if anyone was really missing the NBA??
I'm not at all and it is just less highlights taken time away from football on Sports Center. College basketball is enough bball for me.. so it can stay just for the excitement of March Madness. However, NBA can be locked out for 10 years and I wouldn't blink or shed a tear.
Probably the wrong thread to mention this in... Happy Thanksgiving. -
My first thought was how do you create this thread on Thanksgiving, a day that is naturally associated with football. I am not missing basketball one bit from the NBA lockout and I will only have an engaged interest in NCAAB once we get into conference tourney play. The amount of media attention that has been directed towards the NBA lockout, a sport that is already missing regular season games is absolutely hilarious compared to the amount of coverage the NFL received when they were cutting it close to missing a preseason game. But I won't rant in here on why I am not a basketball fan, so, like the above post, Happy Thanksgiving and I will move along.

My friend and I coach AAU teams in 3 different divisions and I coach a high school team by myself. It is so enjoyable working with youngsters learning the game. Watching them improve and seeing the excitement when they realize it is amazing.
big reason was watching a very good game last night after watching WVU win the night before.Originally Posted by DBo Fo Sho

our newest AAU age division played it's first tourney this past weekend and was runner-up while the older group won
I love football and Thanksgiving without the Cowboys would be wrong (that's why I hate hearing the complaints about Detroit and Dallas hosting Thanksgiving games day Tradition matters Also, the NFL network game lets everyone else in on the fun people) That being said, Basketball will always be number one to me
Hope you have a Great Thanksgiving day too
Doc and Larry Legend about to brawl in the Garden pretty cool pic

My man - Rod Strickland. Dude was just the fuckin NYC playground boss before Kenny Anderson and Stephon. Was as tough, and uncompromising as the streets that shaped him. No respect right until the end - he played 17 years and made 0 all star teams lol.

Found a good video that kinda defines him as a product of the environment;

Ok, so he was born in Brooklyn, but raised in Wilmington, NC. From toddler years ---> high school
I was born in a diff town from Wilmington, but moved there in the 2nd grade. I consider Wilmington my hometown, because that's where I spent most of my formative years growing up. I'm sure MJ would say the same. -

then he started spending all his time eating fried food and knocking up chicks
guess I can't fault him there but it would've been nice if he had waited about ten years -
Not a huge roundball fan, but I love March Madness, and I love Larry Bird. One of my favourite sports quotes is from Red Auerbach . . . "Larry Bird doesn't come 'to play', Larry Bird comes to WIN."
I have always loved what that said about Larry Legend's mindset.
