  1. This is the main entrance to the battlefield. Plenty of fighting was done on this hill behind the sign.

As we progress into the battlefield headed west.

This is the strategic high point of the main battlefield. This is looking east over the Hudson River. Willard Mountain is seen in backround, which was used throughout the war. Having high ground gave not only battle advantage but the ability to see the enemy coming in advance.

This is down by the river looking back west at the hill in the above pictures, gives you an idea of how close this whole battle really was. We are less than 2 miles from the top of the hill with the cannon.

This is the exact spot as above, but now we face east across the Hudson. In the backround is Willard Mountain, which is seen in the right corner of the cannon hill pic. Across the river and less than one mile was a British Hospital and 3 major battalions. On this side of the river we will shortly see General Schyler's house.

    south view

This is one mile north of last location. The view is to the north. This was a major piece of the river to control.

This is the rebuilt home of General Schuyler. The British had taken control of this house. However, as the war was slipping away, this house was ordered burned to the ground so that the oncoming American troops wouldn't have use of it. As the ashes still remained warm, the surrender of the British would occur and the United States of America was born less than one mile from here.

Hard to see, but in the second pic the monument can be seen in the middle of the trees. ^^

Dedications for those who lost their lives in the war. RIP and Thank You!

Hope you have enjoyed seeing the actual site of the battle. Here is a pic not related to the war. It is the island where I spent almost every summer day and night age 12-18. This is where I learned how to hunt/fish/make camp etc. It will always be a great memory for me. This is about 8 miles south of the battlefield, on the Hudson River.

    I heart OT! ;)
