If tOSU beats Michigan in a close game (one TD)
If the SEC takes care of itself
If a Big East Team doesn't go undefeated
If the final two undefeated teams are tOSU/MU
If all that falls into place I just have one question
Explain to me why UT should play in the title game over the loser of the tOSU/MU game. -
because mrs utterczar says so
-
I guess I would ask, why not?
That would make the only loss for Texas against Ohio State, the same as Michigan's only loss. Why would Michigan deserve to go over Texas? Texas is the defending National Champion and their only loss over the last 2 years was to Ohio State. Furthermore, other than the loss this year to Ohio State, Texas hasn't lost a game since early October 2004 and during that time beat Michigan in the Rose Bowl....(I know that was a different year and a different team...)
My point is: Why would Michigan deserve to go over Texas when they both have 1 loss, both to the same team and if the BCS ranks Texas higher? Good or bad, like it or hate it, we are stuck with the BCS system for now.
Texas will probably be ranked #2 in the country after the November 18th showdown between Mich/Ohio St and still not make the National Championship because of the BCS rankings. Do you think that is fair? AP and Coaches both think Texas is #2, but the BCS has a different ranking "due to the computers" , who last time I checked couldn't watch a game or form an opinion. -
Sorry Utter, you can't use an argument that goes back in history past the beginning of this season to justify who should go this year. Them only losing whatever games since 2004 and being a defending champ has absolutely nothing to do with this year.
What it will all boil down to is how Michigan actually looks against OSU, and if they lose, by how much. Take an objective look at how both teams are and send the best team. If Michigan loses something like 28-21 at OSU, that to me is a far stronger argument than a Texas 24-7 loss at home. Unless Michigan gets blown out and stopped similarly, I don't think Texas has much of an argument of being more highly ranked.
Michigan has a far more experienced QB, better RB and comparable WRs (when healthy). Michigan's defense is better than Texas's. Michigan has not trailed past the 2nd quarter in any game this year and has been up on every opponent at least 2 TDs by the 4th quarter. Unless something unforseen happens in the OSU game that shoots holes in these arguments, Michigan is clearly a better team than Texas and thus would deserve to go over them.
But I think it's pretty unlikely that the Big East will not have an unbeaten team, so it's not really worth worrying about. -
good argument utter. i think if this is what happens, and IMO it's the most likely scenario, Texas should get a rubber match vs tOSU in the fiesta bowl. But it all wont matter, tOSU team this season is one of the best college football teams ever
-
don't worry about it
Florida vs. Ohio State -
Utter-
-I don't think UT would be deserved to be ranked #2 in the AP/Coaches poll. If MU plays with tOSU and its a close game (which it usually is) I don't see how they could punish MU for losing by 6 at Colombus.
-MU plays a tougher schedule than UT
-If MU upsets tOSU there is no way UT is ranked ahead of tOSU, I think we can agree with that
-I don't like the BCS, I'd like to see a playoff of some sort
-I didn't mean to ask would texas be ranked #2 but rather wanted to hear some reasons on why UT should be ranked ahead of the loser of that game -
who the hell is MU? not Michigan University, it is THE University of Michigan
-
who cares, everyone will forget about them after tOSU wins in a rout
-
a rubber match? When did Texas beat OSU this year?
This is my big beef about either Michigan or Texas playing OSU if OSU beats Michigan.
If Michigan or Texas wins that game, there is no clear cut champion. How can you justify if Michigan wins the first game and OSU wins the 2nd game that OSU is the champ? Or if Texas gets in... they will be 1-1 against each other, yet one is the champ and one is not. -
I think i would rather have OSU play florida because they havent played yet. Then Ohio state would be true national champions beating 3 different conferences
But that is just from what game i would like to watch
OSU beats anyone?>
what happens if Michigan beats OSU? -
LOL they shouldn't. Texas is obvious not a top calibur team (not eve a top 5 team in my opinion). If they sneaked there way into the national championship game I know a lot of people will be pretty mad. I see UT winning out this season and losing whatever BCS bowl game they are in to whoever they play. I think any of the top 7 teams will walk all over their secondary.
-
lol hey utter im not complaining about texas :-)
-
Texas? Lol. Yeah, they deserve to be there. Note to all: if you lose at home by 17 to anyone, you should not be playing for a NATIONAL championship.
