  1. I didn't see a thread on this, but sorry if there already is. This was amazing to me that they could basically hide time.

    http://www.foxnews.com/scitech/2012/...cloak-created/

I felt dumb after reading this, but what do people think of this? Seems like it could be something that could be used for good and bad if developed.

as long as Bif doesn't figure it out we'll be fine.
  8. cool concept, but it's been around for a while. we could do this with lower frequency EM waves for a few years but cornell's now pushed it into the visible range, opening up the possibility of masking "events" from the human eye, so long as those events are briefer than 0.00000000004 seconds.

it's progress, which is great, but this technology doesn't have any real-world applications. just more sensationalism for the masses.
  9. in 1000 years it will have real world applications. Still kinda cool.

  10. oh, don't get me wrong. the concept is transcendent, but it's like admiring the steam engine before anyone ever dreamed of the ferrari. except the gap is even bigger here.

I agree though and would guess we'll cloak macroscopic objects well within 1000 years.
  11. title got me into the thread. fox news link getting me right out.

its sad that the link is foxnews, this has been on on physics websites for months now, and the Duke experiment go back a year or so iirc....

this find has more feasable implications for quantum computing, and security, those applications aren't that far off, the Harry Potter cloak shit is a whole different ballgame
