Just got a Galaxy s2, I switched from a 4 yead old p.o.s. without internet access. So I'm basically clueless when it comes to smartphones. What are some of the best apps that you guys like and that I should get?
-
i fuck with pandora on the reg
-
angry birds to waste some time, u lookin for games, health, drinks, maps, restraunts, or what?
-
buffalo wings
-
Mostly games and other things to do when I get free time. Is it worth looking in the free section of the market? Or are the ones in there all crap?
-
naw dude the free apps are usually pretty good with some of them having a paid version which allows so extra benefits most of the free apps are kosher
-
I have the same phone, get all my apps from the free market. If you want free games that will eat your free time and your soul, get blast monkeys and stickman golf. and obv angry birds.
-
I got the birds already, will check out the monkeys and golf next for sure, thanks guys.

A couple good apps from the market imo
Animated Widget- Saves room on your screens by making a folder that then can launch any of a group of applications, contacts or bookmarks
Jorte- Best calender and calender widget that i have seen
Airdroid- Allows you do move files back and forth between your phone and computer wirelessly, along with some other features like sending and receiving phone text messeges from your computer
Photoshop Express- Really good photo editor
Auto Wifi enabler- turns your lock screen off when you get home, and turns it back on when you leave.
Ringdroid- Making your own ringtones or notification sounds from mp3/mp4s
Springpad- cool app for taking notes, making lists, tasks
Pandora, TuneiN Radio, Google Music- music -
Take your Android to the next level... root it and flash custom ROMs/kernels. I'd also recommend getting an external microSD card, I found a 30GB Class 4 SanDisk for around $35. Don't skimp on brand quality for the SD card though - stick with SanDisk, Kingston, Lexar, bigger well known names because they have higher standards for their classes (ie: a class 4 SanDisk beats a class 10 no-name brand)
I have the SGSII SkyRocket on AT&T, this is what my desktop setup is like (some of the apps you have to be rooted to use)
Besides the ones below, I recommend ADW Launcher, Dolphin Browser Mini or HD,

Titanium Backup - (free or paid version) to back up your system and app settings
Dropbox - for easy syncing of files
Download Applanet from your Android Browser and get paid apps for free!

Elixir - consolidated widgets and tools, LOVE THIS APP and it's FREE!
Camera360 - think it's still free but it's a great camera alternative with lots of settings and enhancements

Fancy Widget - for the weather/clock/calendar widget you can customize it to your liking. IE: when I click on the time it takes me to the "alarm klock" app
Evernote - for notes obv

PowerAmp - probably my most used program because I have my phone docked and connected to an FM transmitter in my car. 2K+ songs -
I've tried reading what rooting your device does but I never really seem to understand it. I have an Android device as well, can you give me a dumbed down version as to what rooting your device does for you? Is it an easy thing to do without fucking up? Easy to use after rooting? Any negatives from doing it?
As per the op, 7 words is a fun free game and u can buy more puzzles for only a buck -
Jango is better than pandora in my opinion.
Tons of great sporting apps. -
Edited By: KING Jan 19th, 2012 at 12:28 AMSuper easy. Almost all Android phones have a one-click program method where you just connect your phone to your computer and it roots it with one-click of a button (obviously).Originally Posted by DBo Fo Sho

The main benefit of rooting: Gain Superuser access so you can do whatever you want with your phone. Negatives? None really, you can flash kernels and roms with the ability to overclock, use different themes, etc. You can UNROOT at any time as well and go back to stock.
Find your Android phone model in this forum, go to the development section for your phone. All you need to know is found here:

Rather bump than make a new thread.
Getting an Android device for the first time.
What app does OT recommend for transferring your ITunes music into your Android powered phone?
Thank you. -
The cloud is supposed to be the way to go. I have not tried it or reallly no much about, but google it and then let me know how it goes
-
If you want to have all your music stored on your phone, you can put it onto a microsd card using a $2.99 app found on the Android market called iSyncr which will move music and playlists.
If you don't want to use much of your space on your phone, and are using able to access either 3g,4g or wifi wherever you want to listen to music, Google Music (free) is the way to go. -
Thanks guys appreciate it.
