hand was from the 25k WPT final table in 2010
-
So did they rig this thing for him or what? He's usually twitter/social media mad but on suddenly getting this satty into a $1m buyin he's quiet?
-
Someone posted on 2+2 that they heard he was given the seat.....then GaryWise tweeted that he heard basically the same thing, he didn't even win the satty but was awarded a seat...lol if true
-
steve melling won some $65 satty in bumfuck, iowa into a bigger satty, won that, and is now at the FT of the biggest satellite of all time. go him! no offense to anyone else left, but i'd rather see a story like that personally.

Edited By: Pghfan987 Jul 1st, 2012 at 08:14 AMWhoa. This is actually a fucking awesome story. If he ends up winning the BIG tourney, what would be the equivalent story in another sport? In basketball, some guys starts out in October playing basketball at the YMCA, becomes best player in that league. Then he plays basketball professionally Europe in November, in some random country that really only exists on a map like Luxembourg, and crushes it. Gets promoted to the D-league around Christmas, quickly dominates there. Then in March he gets promoted to the NBA, where people suddenly realize he is the best basketball player in the world. And just 6 months ago, he was bagging groceries and playing basketball twice a week at the YMCA.Originally Posted by sketchy1

THAT'S what it would be like. -
Well, yea, but in this context, we're assuming poker is a sport!

I also thought about what the equivalent stories in other sports would be for Phil Hellmuth winning a satellite into this tourney. Would it be like Derek Jeter getting cut from the Yankees, then the Yankees hold an open tryout for the starting shortstop position of the Yankees, and Jeters wins that open tryout? -
Yeah, pretty hard not to root for this guy to win... but don't you think he'd rather finish second and get the $1 million cash and not have to play?
-
if a guy who already has a seat (like Elky or Hansen) wins, 2nd place automatically gets in, right?
-
Whoa. What would the heads-up strategy be like for two players who want to purposely LOSE the match?
-
lol, it was more of a statement to say that Steve Melling would need to finish 2nd to a guy that is not already registered in the one drop tournament to get the 1 million money prize

Player 1 (6 mil chips wanting to lose) raises to 500k
Player 2(7 mil chips wanting to lose also even tho player 1 doesnt know that) raises to 1.2mil
Player 1 (sees his plan working to perfection) raises to 2.5 mil (looking to induce the chance to 6 bet/fold)
Player 2 raises to 3.75 mil (looking strong but knowing his plan is working)
Player 1 clicks it back to 5 milly (knowing that his plan has 100% worked here as one more raise and hes almost home!)
Player 2 snap folds and hi fives his roaring rail!
Player 1 has his head in his hands knowing he just got leveled out of a million dollars and has to really grind out a loss now -
Melling out
The remaining five players have stepped away on an unscheduled break.

I wonder what kind of deal they gonna pull in secret -
obv gonna talk about the remaining players get a piece of whoever wins...and theres 1.4 million ( 2nd and 3rd ) in cash left....everyones gonna get a piece of that I assume

Deeb Left with One Chip
Posted 16 minutes ago by donpeters
On the first hand back from the unscheduled break, Shaun Deeb raised to 3.24 million and left himself with just one T5,000 chip. Gus Hansen called and the flop came down . Hansen bet 25,000 and Deeb quickly folded.
Deeb dropped down to just a mere 5,000 in chips while Hansen moved to 7.195 million.

that raise/fold sounds like a hellmuth hand
-
lol great. I'll be the first to say PH is good at a lot of things poker-related, but playing a $1MM deepstack tourny isn't one of them.
-
Seems like shitty payouts. 5th place gets you 1.8x your buyin? weakness.
-
Payout structure is one of the best parts. The final table will play a lot more like the old online structures and less like the usual wsop folding exhibitions. La-bear-tee got that part right imo.
-
My picks: Trickett, Ivey, Mizrachi, Negranu, Seidel
-
Doyle was complaining about chest last time i saw any events he was in on youtube, something about not wanting to buyin to tournaments cos he was uncomfortable staying for long periods in pain so that he didn't blind away his stack.

Guess Deeb will get like 800k and a piece of Gus's action? For his finish in second, Deeb earned a $1,000,000 seat into the Big One for One Drop. Because there is only one seat held for the satellite winner, Deeb will go to the bottom of the alternate list and most likely not get into the event. If Deeb doesn't get a seat, which is expected, he'll receive the $1,000,000 cash
