  1. Good bet on Mizzou here? Seems like a good line on the Big 12 North favorite on neutral turf (in St. Louis) against a team that was 2-10 last year.

  4. I give it two thumbs up!

Note: Thumbs up void in Missouri.
  5. no they dont and they are certainly not the favorite
  6. well, the guys that actually watch these teams day in and day out every single weekend, the Big 12 media, picked Mizzou over Nebraska:

Missouri and Texas are the preseason choices to take home the Big 12 South and North Division titles this season in a recent poll of 24 media members conducted by the conference. These picks are not surprising and seem to represent the current tenor among other preseason polls and selections.

Missouri gets the nod in the North, thanks to 15 returning starters and a seasoned quarterback in Chase Daniel (pictured at right). The Tigers' offense is arguably the most talented group the team has had under Gary Pinkel. The preseason expectations will only increase the heat under Pinkel's seat should Missouri stumble early. Nebraska was picked second in the North as Bill Callahan enters his fourth season. The Huskers are looking to replace all four starters along the defensive front and must also break in a new starter at quarterback. It should be noted, however, that their new QB will likely be former ASU star Sam Keller.

Texas is the media darling in the South with 13 returning starters from its 10-win 2006 team. Colt McCoy has a season under his belt, and will only continue to improve if his offensive line can protect him. Oklahoma is picked second and could surprise folks if the QB situation in Norman finally gets settled.

While preseason polls are generally useless, Tim Griffin of the San Antonio Express-News notes that:<blockquote>"The media poll has been correct in seven of the previous 11 seasons in the North and the South. It has been correct for both conferences in four of the last five seasons."</blockquote>You can check out the entire poll after the jump. 2007 Big 12 Preseason Football Poll (Media Vote)

  7. Probably a good bet, MUPP, but the Illini are going to be a much, much better team this year.

Zook has already brought some sick athletes into Chambana, but who knows how well they'll compete this year. Looking at their schedule, I'd say 4-8 or 5-7 would be about right.

Mizzou should win this game by 10-14 points, but I guess we'll find out on Saturday.

    Weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee for football!!
  8. It sounds like the one thing that everybody can agree on is that my alma mater (Iowa State) sucks scissors and will finish DFL. We're #6....we're #6...
  9. Illinois is the surprise team in the league, and will probably get to a bowl, bad bet.
  10. Think it's a great bet. Iliinois is 6-2 in season openers, but both of those losses come at the hands of Mizz in St. Louis. The last time Illinois won in Mizz in this series was 1976!!

    GL.
  11. I'll go with handicappers over sportwriters anyday.

    GO BIG RED!!!
  12. The only thing I don't like is betting on the alma mater. I advise against betting on any game you have an emotional attachment to.
  13. I'd look at the over MUPP, I hate Mizzou (NU grad) but their offense is going to be crazy this year, you don't have much rust to shake off because nearly the entire offense returns from last year correct? On the flip side, Illinois has sicko athlete Juice Williams at QB back, plus they signed a superstud WR (Benn or Penn?) that should contribute immediately. Plus, as good as Mizzou's offense will be, their defense will be as bad if not worse, all the playmakers from last year are gone. I see a high scoring game, grab @ 55.5 if you can, if not then pass. Oh, as long as you guys have Pinkel at the helm, you'll never win the Big 12 North....never. Although that Mizzou/NU game will be insanity, especially if it's at night which I'm thinking it will be.
  14. It's a good bet, but Illinois is a scary team. They have a very good Defense, but that Missouri offense and the no huddle schemes could cause them problems. Illinois can't score any points and I don't think they'll be able to hold Missouri offense down enough.

The only thing that you should be worried about is the one/two brain farts that Pinkel's teams have had every season over the past few years (i.e.- Troy, Iowa St., you know what I'm talking about). Hopefully this isn't one of them.

I'll be at the dome for this game and can't wait.
  15. Jaxsonguy, Cougars4444, BGX, and me talked about this game at length last night. And we decided that we're not touching it with a 60 foot pole.

Illinois returns something like 19 starters and had a decent recruiting class. We're not sure what we're going to get out of Mizzou this year. Yes, they are hyped up a lot...I don't know why. Also it is at Illinois (yeah they suck, but it is still a big 10 atmosphere).

Two other "business" sides of this bet are: Missouri is supposed to make a run at the big 12, and Illinois is supposed to tank (again), so why only a 4 point spread. Also, the game has moved from -110 to -115. This means that a LOT of people are taking Mizzou. Keep in mind that the general public is WRONG when it comes to sports betting. Just some observations

If you put a gun to my head and asked me to pick, im taking Mizzou...but you know this team better than anyone here, so go with what your gut tells you.
  16. xmas----Don't count out that illinois defense. They were very good last year and are virtually all returning. I don't think they'll be able to hold Mizzou down enough, but they'll be tougher on them defensively then most teams Missouri faces this year.
  17. its ok XIAguy, Iowa St -4 against Kent St is a LOCK
  18. winner of big 12 north basically means whos gonna get killed by Texas in the Conf. Championship. Congrats Nebraska!
  19. i have the illini +5 in the handicapping pool. They are gonna be a suprise this yr
    1
  20. I think the line moved from -5 at -110 to -4 at -115, didn't it?

  21. ^^^ very true

Winning the Big 12 North is like being the best chef @ Applebees....you still suck
  22. I don't think so, I thought (I could be wrong) that it was -4 all week, and now (on Bodog) it is at -4.5

    everyone is taking mizzou
  23. Not trying to be picky, but Illinois is not at home for this game.

They may be the home team on the scoreboard, but the game is played in St. Louis (like most "Braggin' Rights" games).

I don't know exactly how you're using "tank" in this situation, but everybody I've talked to/read about is somewhat optimistic about the Illini football team this season. Now, you might consider 5-7 a "tanked" year since you are spoiled by UT every year, but for us Illini fans, we're begging for a near .500 season at this point.

I agree with everyone that Illinois is going to be much improved, but I honestly think this is a somewhat safe bet for MUPP.
  24. good call JRoth, I didn't notice that
  25. np...i also edited talking about "tank" up there...throw me some more thoughts plz!

college football (or any football, for that matter) discussion!!
  26. Im just saying that Illinois isn't going to be that good, maybe tank isn't the right word. Maybe they'll make a bowl this year
  27. I doubt that Nebraska will get killed Texas this year, they close with them at the end of a tough October stretch that includes @ Mizzou then home v. A&M & Okie State. The only problem for NU is all 4 DLine starters are gone and they will be very young (only one Sr. on scholarship), however they have the best LB core in the B12 which will help and if they can get Bowman back at 100% (jury is still out but having a 6'2 CB will sub 4.3 speed can't be bad) then the D will be tough. I still think UT wins by 10 though.
  28. gotcha...that's kinda what i figured, but wasn't sure.

i would be very happy with a bowl game this year, but i think the next 2 years will be a much better bet for that.

just need zook to keep recruiting national championship players (like he did for Urban Meyer last year).
  29. ziggy i think you misspelled oklahoma in your post up there...
  30. bump, looking good so far, 23 to 6 at the half!
