I really don't know.
Biggest impact for the team might have to be Stephon Curry, since he is most of the offense, but he's still more of a 2 guard in college in my opinion.
Patrick Mills is terrific, but I don't know if he's in the top group
I think the two with the biggest impact on their teams has to be either Jeff Teague (I am biased because I'm a huge Wake fan) or Ty Lawson.
I don't think there are many guys in the country who could handle their speed. There was a couple of plays in last nights FSU-UNC game where Lawson was ridiculous, and that doesn't include the end to end 3 pointer to win the game.
Any thoughts? Other than the fact I look like I only watch the ACC -
Its Curry obviously, he has the ball in his hands almost the whole time. Without him, his team is .500 tops.
I think Johnny Flynn is extremely important to his team and a great player. I personally think Lawson is a tad overrated, good player but more tools then actual player. Collison and Teague are very good alson. -
no... does not belong among the elite, but probably the best of the 2nd tier...

Please stop saying Stephen Curry just because he's "listed" as a point guard. The guy is not a point guard. He gets the bulk of his assists from passing out of double teams, not by creating baskets for his teammates.
The answer's Teague, but I'll be honest... it feels like a watered-down crop of PG's this year. -
Teague is a SG imo, he plays point bc it's best for Wake, just like Curry... Smith plays a bunch of point for Wake too off the bench
I would say Collison, Collins, Mills if we are going on "true" PGs... and I reserve the right to edit that if I think of someone else -
Eric Maynor is one of the best PG's in the country. He will be a borderline lottery pick and he goes to VCU. He dominates both ends of the floor during crunch time. Pretty sick imo.

Im a homer but without Flynn Syracuse would be lost hes has a few off games lately but went off for 35 against providence and he plays both ends of court and has fun doing so right now hes my favorite player to watch in the country. You'll never see that kid without a smile on his face. Lawson is very important to North Carolina and also Fields from pitt makes them go if were talking impact.

How is drawing double teams and finding the open man not creating baskets for your team?

HMMM so when u get doubled and pass to a wide open teammate under the hoop, you did not create that basket???? How was it created u passed but your teammate has awesome lay-up abilities so he created it?

Chris Paul drives to the hoop so help comes over he dishes it to david west or tyson chandler they score. so that doesnt count as creating a basket for your teammate then? weird -
Anyone think Kalin Lucas at MSU is going to be any good? Obv. he doesnt fit in this category yet but he is only a true soph and getting his first crack at running a team. Led the nation in ast/to although now only leads the big ten i think. Also scored something like 20+ in 6 of last 8 after never scoring twenty before. Im hopin by his senior year hes the best pure point in the nation, id like others opinion.
-
starts and ends with collison. that kid is monstrous and nasty, probably the best if you combine his contribution on both ends of the court
-
Pretty sure it's Tyrece Rice.
-
Chris Warren is up there. I wish he wouldnt have gotten hurt.
Dominic James has a 2.9 A/TO ratio pretty damn good -
LL2, your such a mudshark haha
-
Ty Lawson would be my #1 with Collison and Flynn right behind him.
Pitt would be lost without Levance Fields. They went into the tank when he broke his foot last year. He also has one of the best assist to turnover ratios in the nation. -
how bout scottie reynolds at nova...when he is on they can beat any1 in the country, when he doenst play well, they struggle..he makes them go
-
Even though he is not a true PG. Memphis is a different team since they have moved Tyreke Evans to the PG. Prob not biggest impact PG, but should be up there.

I knew I phrased my post wrong earlier. What I meant was that Curry is not getting assists in the typical point guard/distributor kind of way. I was trying to deter any arguments that Curry is a PG because he's averaging more assists than any other big name PG with the exception of Levance Fields. Here's what I meant:
The offense begins and ends with Curry. I understand he's listed as a PG, but he's not a point guard. 99 percent of their offensive sets revolve around getting Curry open looks and the highest percentage shots possible. Everyone else on the court is option 2, 3, 4 and 5. Defenses are designed to prevent him from scoring, so this leads to double and triple teams and defenders making sure he does not get easy looks. Because of these factors, it's only natural a players in his position is going to get a handful of assists a game (6.5 in Curry's case). It's the same reason guys like Kobe, LeBron and Wade are always going to average 5-7 assists a game. The balls is always in their hands, they're always looking to create their own shot first, and every other option is contingent upon whether these guys have an available look. (there's nothing wrong with this. Obviously it's in the best interest of the team.)
Now think about what PG's do: The ball begins in their hands. Once the offensive play starts, they have 4-5 variable and EQUAL options. Option #1 - pass to David West for an open 18-footer; Option #2 - lob to Chandler underneath the basket; Option #3 - shoot if open; Option #4 - kick it out to Posey or Peja in the corner.
They're all equal options. It's not a score-first, kick-to-teammates second mentality. It's based on what will create the highest percentage shot possible. It does lead to a lot of scoring in Chris Paul's case because he is so good at beating his guy off the dribble and finishing in traffic. But if you asked him what his primary goal is when he's driving to the rim, he's not going to say, "Shoot a running floater or get myself an easy bucket."
You can't run an offense like this without superior vision and a pass-first mentality.
I gotta go so that's all I'm going to say about this now.
