Alright so I may end up paying retail price for a DROID :(
I am not eligible for an upgrade anytime soon.
I am on the site for Verizon Wireless pricing phones etc. reading reviews but I know OT is more reliable than some BS review.
Basically I do not the difference between blackberry storm, curve, boisenberry, booberry etc.
I prob should specify my budget but I really dont want to restrict myself.
Am I best off just paying full pric for the DROID is it that good?
Or if not which blackberry would you suggest and why?
I am paying full retail most likely so the deals on the site for new 2 yr activation will not apply to me. :(
Brag post I do get 25% off do a part-time I have since they have a deal with Verizon, so DROID would still be high just not as high as listed. -
If your going to pay retail why not just pay to cancel your contract and get a iPhone?
-
I dunno your credit situation, but if you've been with them awhile or have really good credit, you should call customer service and threaten to cancel, pay the early termination fee and get a new phone with another company. I used to work customer service for Sprint and this happened every hour. Sprint automatically rates each account according to their "worth" to the company and then sets limits to what the reps can/can't offer you based on that score.
I've taken at least 50 calls personally where someone had a Palm Pre or Blackberry and wanted the HTC Hero and would flat out say "if you don't give me this phone at the upgrade price, I'll just cancel and go get an IPhone with AT&T." Sure enough... they'd get the phone :). -

The Droid is not worth paying full price for, imo. How much longer until your contract gets renewed? -
the buyout contract makes lot of sense

Do NOT get anything but the Motorola Droid. I am on T-Mobile and have a Blackberry Curve 8900 and am kicking myself for not being on Verizon. Be happy you have the option of the Motorola Droid, it really is the iPhone killer.
The Blackberry is a great phone but it is no Droid.
Also, don't get some other phone either. Get the Droid, you will thank yourself later. -
Posting from HTC Hero right now. Have had zero problems, the internet on this phone is faster than my DSL at home. Finger scroll is smoothest I've felt on any phone.

i do not see hero listed on that page, unless it is the same as one of the other htc phones -
Eris is not the same. my co-worker got the eris (SP?) and returned it for a droid the next day. Motorola Droid is sf sick.
-
i have a blackberry and i fukn love it...
i think the difference between the eris and the reg droid is the eris dosent have a keyboard that slides out, its just the touch screen. -
if you can tell me some more information i can help you with what you should get...
like what do you do most with your phone? in order of importance rank these:
text, email, web browsing, social networking
i would say the only reason to get a droid over a blackberry is if web browsing is most important to you(even though blackberry will have a webkit browser out some time this coming summer). the droid's physical keyboard is not very easy to type on. if you live close enough to a verizon store, i would suggest going in there and trying it out.
As for blackberry
the new curve 8530, to me, is a very cheaply made phone.
display: 320x240
camera: 2.0MP no flash
has wifi
has trackpad instead of trackball
the tour 9630, a great blackberry since most of the trackball issues have been fixed
display: 480x360 (huge difference compared to the curve)
camera: 3.2MP w/ flash
no wifi
trackball
****The new Tour (tour 2 aka essex aka 9650) is supposedly coming out in early February (most things i've read say the 3rd) and will include wifi, trackpad, and 2GB of onboard memory***** (this is what i would get)
the Storm 2 9550, a great solidly made phone
display: 480x360 (same pixels as tour but this screen is much larger)
camera: 3.2MP w/ flash
has wifi
completely touch, not physical keyboard
I've really enjoyed having mine so far and will hate to sell it (moving to sprint)
I don't have any of the specs for the droid because once i tried the physical keyboard i completely dismissed it as a phone for me. I do know that has a great display and my brother enjoys his. have you ever had a strictly touch screen phone? do you want to have a physical keyboard or is that something that doesn't matter to you.
but i'd consider myself pretty knowledgeable about smartphones and what not so if you want some more help then you can PM me. -
They ahve diff processors, RAM, etc... I am pretty sure the Motorola Droid has like 512 RAM which is just sick for a phone.
-
ye powda, hero has 5 mp camera , which is also sick for a phone (in case you didn't see my edit)
-
do what i did. my phone sucked balls and i was a year from my upgrade. i found someone who was due for an upgrade and was getting a blackberry. they were running a buy one, get one free, so i split the cost. i got a blackberry storm for $25. from what i hear, it's not as good as the droid, but it's a sick phone
-
stay away from the storm imo, mine just collescts dust or plays music in the bathroom. ive had 4 of the fuckers they suck. haven't touched a droid. my iphone kills tho. couldn;t imagine life with another phone period... gl
-
I get to pick any phone that I want paid for by work, but I can't get the Droid because it doesn't support the apps I need and my job is married to Verizon.
Also looking for suggestions. -
What you can do is go to a verizon wireless store. add a line and get the droid. call customer service within 15 days or 30 days not sure of their cancel polcy. cancel that new line and keep the phone. Call customer service later that day and tell them you want to change the phone on your plan and give them the serial number of your droid. I have done it and it works.
Do not add a line at a dealer they usually make you give them a credit card and if you cancel early they will chage your card full retail price if you dont return the droid -
I got a droid last month and absolutely love it. I would say anything besides an iPhone or droid is clearly a step below, and I think verizon service >>>>> AT&T so that's why I'm rocking the droid now.
-
I got my hero right before christmas, and I absolutely love it.
It's fricking mind blowing, it's the best android phone out there (but now that the nexus one is out, it has a faster processor and the 2.1 android system, which hero is getting soon).
The droid is awesome too, so if you're verizon it's definitely the best choice. -
Did you know that last November Verizon raised their Early Termination Fees for smartphones from $175 to $350? So that $200 phone (after rebate) will cost you another $350 when you cancel the service for it.

but then again this may have to do with the LG chocolate 3 that I currently have that makes me want to kick puppies when I try to browse the web, so take that for it is worth.

props to ginwilly for asking for suggestions in same thread....so many times N00bs make a separate thread about the same thing that is already on the front page....like I am sure my thread was ultimately a repost, but I needed up to date info OBV and had more specific questions, I think I did anyway
