Ok, so my FRIEND bought several dozen NEW golf balls off of ebay (Titleist Pro V1s) so he could give them to his dad as a Christmas present. He paid via PayPal and the balls got to his house 1 week later. He looks at the balls and realizes that they are clearly used. He tells the seller, and the seller tells him to ship the balls back for a refund. Knowing there are tons of scammers and shit online, he files an "item significantly not as described" dispute on PayPal to make sure he gets his money back once he sends the balls back to the seller.

For some reason the seller gets extremely pissed at this, and turns around and says "I think you're trying to scam me now. Now I'm suspicious that you are trying to take the new balls that I sent you and replace them with your own used balls in an attempt to scam me. Now I'm going to have to examine these balls very closely once you send them back to make sure you aren't scamming me. I didn't get this 100% feedback rating by deceiving customers...blah blah blah"

My friend basically took this as a sign that the deadbeat seller had no intention of refunding him his money. His dad told him "w/e its ok, I'll just play with these used balls", but his dad being a nearly scratch golfer, quickly discovered that these didnt have nearly the amount of control that his usual Pro V1s had. He did a little more digging and found out that they were clearly counterfeit. Compared to the authentic Pro V1s, these fake balls were a much brighter white, had a completely different dimple pattern, had a different font print for the numbers printed on the balls, had much lower quality paint, and were noticeably harder if you tested it by knocking them on your teeth.

My friend, completely pissed off, basically told the seller "FU for trying to pull that 'you swapped used balls for the new balls I sent you' shit on me. Refund my money immediately you shithead at which point ill send your balls back or I will report you to Paypal, ebay, titleist's counterfeit whatever unit, and the PO, AND i'll message all previous and future buyers of your balls and tell them how to identify the fact that your balls are counterfeit, etc"

Would that last part be considered blackmail in a court of law? Is my friend screwed? What would his next move be if the seller tries to pull some more bs on him?

FU no cliffnotes :(
2. its only December 18th...
3. no.
4. lol
5. Tell said dad to fix his slice and quit blaming it on the balls

6. why the hell would you not just go to a sports store and just buy them?
7. Does one really save enough money buying an item like this on ebay to make it worth the risk?

well with the ebay 25% cashback that was running a couple weeks ago, the balls came out to be ~$100 instead of $140 retail and the dude had 100% feedback with like almost 400 transactions so he thought it would be authentic :(

9. He was scammed, tel him to keep the balls and file complaint with paypal and ebay. this seller new he was scamming him , if your friend didnt file complaint the seller would have strung him along until he couldnt have made complaint (ie past time limit). just give your dad the used balls and say you got screwed when you bought them. i would send all correspondence with his threat to payapal and ebay as evidence of his lack of character.

you could prolly go to small claims courts to recoup your money, but seriously how much money you talking about, not worth time. next time just go to store and buy them after you pay shipping you p[rolly saved 4 bucks maybe
10. So cost was 100 instead of 140 then add 10 for shipping and handling. not to mention with this years economy id bet these balls are on sale somewhen for less than 120, with 0% chance of being decieted. i expect alot more people being screwed on craigslist and ebay and other such sites in the near future. with the economy going on a downward spiral alot of these sellers will be misrepresenting themselves to make ends meet
11. I sell a lot on ebay. And I know this all the rights are with the buyer when it comes to ebay and paypal.

This all you have to do file the item not as describe on paypal. And send the balls back to seller with insurance and delivery confirmation. You will need these to prove you sent them back. In doing so just state that ebay auction description was for new authentic golf balls and you discovered they were fakes. Also tell the selller provided you get a full fund of the originally purchase and shipping.(This does not include costs of sending it back, paypal policy does not cover that). You will not give a negative rating.

End of story.. You should get your money back from seller or you will win the dispute with the provided paperwork proving you sent the item back.
