  1. I saw this movie last night and honestly I thought it was TERRIFIC. I left the theater feeling optomistic and good. The story is amazing itself and Sandra Bullock gives a performance I had no idea she was capable of. It was touching, sad, slightly funny and at times a little cliche. You don't have to like football or Sandra Bullock to enjoy this movie. The kid who plays Michael Oher does a great job in this as well. If you have reservations about this movie just give it a chance and walk in with a clear mind and I would be suprised if you walked out thinking it sucked. Who else has seen this and what are some opinions? Maybe bubbakgb can step in and pawn my review.
  2. I haven't seen it, and there are way too many other movies I want/need to see right now to give this any attention. FWIW, I've only seen the previews, which are awful. There was a thread about this already where the OP called it a top five movie of all-time. Needless to say, he got doused.

  3. i saw it opening day.... GREAT MOVIE!!
  4. saw it would see again!
I don't like being called Big Mike

  5. Oh but you should see it MR. KGB, I understand it's oscar season and you will probably be watching Brothers and An Education...however Bullock will get some attention for this role. As far as top 5 all time, well that's a bit of a stretch and that's probably why he got doused. If you understand movies however and understand what you are getting then this movie is great. The trailer did suck and I saw this for free [I work at Sundance] But I would gladly pay for it again.

  6. Sandra Bullocks best performance, sure fire oscar winner.
  7. I wasn't going to go see this just because Sandra Bullock was in it, maybe I'll reconsider.

finally saw a trailer for that and looks unbelievable. Maguire looks unreal good.

as for this movie, still haven't seen it. has anyone who's read the book seen the movie? what do they think of it?
  9. on sunday night football, michael oher said he didnt like how the movie depected him, and said it made him look like he didnt know what he was doing on the field and had been playing football since 8th grade. So that sucks they make a movie about you and you dont like the way they make you look.
  10. Great Movie! I had no clue until afterwards that the dad in the movie is played my country singer Tim McGraw.

That's interesting I did not see that. If I had one negative thing to say about the movie it would probably be the football scenes though. They were gaudy hollywood scenes [trying to glam up the left tackle posistion, lol]

I hate the fact that Hollywood is now remaking all these great foreign movies which frankly should be left alone because they are modern classics. I am sure Brothers will get great reviews and acting will be top notch etc. etc., but the Susanne Bier Danish original was so freakin' good that it will be impossible for me to not measure it against that one. I also read that The Lives of Others is being remade with Nic Cage as one of the leads. And, Spielberg and Will Smith were going to do Oldboy, but it fell apart for the time being (though it may be revived in the future). Taking a little known Hong Kong film such as Infernal Affairs and turning it into The Departed is one thing, remaking Hollywood versions of brilliant iconic foreign films like the others I mentioned is another.

Meh, I really don't see the problem with it, especially since it might actually get more people to watch the originals. I mean it feels like you're offended for some reason, when really, the fact that these movies are being remade is complimentary to the originals.

I am not offended; just making the point that it is tough for me to watch the remakes without always using the original as a barometer. It obviously happens with book adaptations as well, but the urge to compare with movie remakes is even greater. If it will get more people to watch the original, that's good as well. But I hate the fact that a lot of people need to watch a Hollywood version of the movie to then go back and see the original. I mean, there are tons of great foreign movies out there and so what if they are subtitled?

Also, I don't know what you mean by the movies being remade being "complimentary" to the originals. If you mean it is a compliment to the originals, I agree only if the remake is good enough to do justice to the original. Also, most casual moviegoers don't even realize that the movie is a remake and think it is just some shitty Hollywood production. The Birdcage is a good example; a lot of people think it is an original. I think the same will happen will Brothers and most will not know that it is a remake(though the movie will probably end up being much better than The Birdcage).
