See Where You Rank in Virginia

  1. It looks like I might be moving to Bloomsburg PA. Was just wondering if anyone has been there or has any thoughts on the area? Right now I live in Atlanta and am ready to get out of here. I see that Pocono Downs has a poker room and that is about 30 mins away. Also there are so other casinos that seem pretty close and was wondering if anyone of them has a poker room? I also see that Elk Mountain seems to be the closest/best skiing near Bloomsburg. I am a big skier and am happy to be near skiing again. Any other thoughts about the area?

Bloom is a solid college town. Have thing called block party every year lots of drunken fun. Not sure on actual town life tho. Close enough to Wilkes-Barre/Lehigh Valley area can catch AAA baseball. Not super close but easy enough drive close to Philly/NYC.

Elk Mountain never been there, not sure how far exactly from Bloom but Blue Mountain is the best in the area...
  3. Not a bad area, there are several mountains to ski/ snowboard near there. Big college town, but might be kinda rednecky(yea, I made up a word) pocono downs is still a bit of a drive, but you are right between NYC and Philly too.
  4. I went to Bloomsburg College for a few years. And went to BLock party Everyyear. It was a wild time. I live a few towns over called Hazleton Only a about 20 miles down I-80.

Moheegan Sun is in the wilkes berr- scranton area which is the race track. They just opened two months ago. They only have a few tables so far. 1-2, 2-5 , 5-10 NL and I thnk they may have a 10 20 limit. Ive been there once since it opened and the play is very very soft very bad players at 1-2. My friend plays in the 2-5 game and 5-10 and makes decent money on the weekends on he isnt very good but cleans up pretty good.

If you want something bigger Atlantic city is only about 2 1/2 hours away. Fridays and Saturadays they run bus trips for like 10 bucks.

If you like to SKI check this site out its big boulder/ jack frost. This is where everyone goes from my home town. I dont know for sure i dont ski or snow board.

I hope this helps. If you need any more info just let me know.

    MIke.
  5. Thanks alot Mike. Yeh It seems like there are some good poker rooms around town. Also it seems like most people are pretty awful which is great. I am a big skier also so it will be nice to get near the mountains. I heard about this Block Party too. Seems like it is a great time.

When I was in school in 07 and 08 there was a few "underground" Games. I didnt have money at the time to buy in to the games. Im sure there are some still around. There are a few in my home town that we play at. Midstakes and then some highstakes rich nut jobs that just throw money around.

Block party is Alot of fun. It gets pretty crazy. When i was in highschool and a freshman in college were the best years to party at the school. I think they were rated number 3 in playboy one year as the top party colleges. then some kids got killed in a drinking party and the cops started crackin down. Its still pretty fun. You can see some cool vids of block party on u tube when you do a search.
  7. Grew up 30 mins from Bloomsburg, half my graduating class went there. Fun little college town and the 'historical' residential area is really nice. Just bought a motorcycle from J&B Honda on Berwick Road in bloomsburg.

Block party is great, but how did no one mention the Bloomsburg fair yet?! I drive home every year just to go to the fair. It's seriously a huge event. Awesome food and always a good time. Homemade beef jerky, eastern european food (pierogies, halushki, halupkis, etc), birch beer, apple dumplings w/ cinnamon ice cream, mmmmm......

Good skiing in the poconos. Since bloomsburg is right off of I-80, it's easy to hop on and drive east to the ski areas.

Don't know if you're into dirtbikes, but if you drive southeast a little while you'll hit some of the best dirtbike riding around. Actually, I think bloomsburg has some good stuff as well, but if you go into Schuylkill county it's like a dirtbike paradise.

Just keep in mind that there's not much in the middle of PA. State college is 1:15 away, Pittsburgh is like 4 hours away, and Philly is prob a good 2 hours. Wilkes barre/Scranton area are the closest "big cities" and they're about an hour+ away. Williamsport is nearby though, so if you've ever wanted to see the little league world series, now's your chance.

    Safe travels.
  8. I have also been looking at Wilkes Barre/Scranton area becuase Elk Mountain is close and Pocono Downs is closer. What do you guys think about that area? Is it better to just live in Bloomsburg and make the drive to ski and play poker or are the areas comparable. I heard the Pocono Downs poker room is a fishbowl too.

  9. I live in scranton , haven't been to bloomsburg in years so can't tell you much about that . All the pa casinos have tablegames/poker now . There will be 3 casinos near you the sands , mt. airy and mohegan . I haven't been to the sands yet but I've heard it sucks . Mt. Airy has 11 poker tables in a closet they call a poker room but they do have a bad beat which is somewhere near $300,000 right now . Mohegan has the nicest poker room and it is easy money , they also just started mtt's every morning 10am and evening 7pm .

went to college about 30 min away. the bloomsburg fair was something we all looked forward to every year. you know you go to school in a small PA town in the middle of Amish country if a fair is the highlight of the year.
  11. momma war and poppa war got romantic for the first time in bloomsburg....so think about that when you get there
