  1. So awhile back at an event for someone with Leukemia, I got swabbed and was contacted yesterday because I am a match for someone with Leukemia. Of course I'll donate if it's to save someone's life, especially a kid, but I'm a little scared about it because it seems pretty painful/taxing. Anyone done this before?
  2. 1. sign up for donation

    2. get a match

    3.???

    4. Profit
  3. i got my blood drawn today, it sucked.
  4. I had a friend do this and he said it's not the best thing you'll ever go through but a hell of a lot better than what the poor kid is facing. What a wonderful and selfless act. You got a one way ticket to heaven. Best of luck to you and the kid.
  5. in most cases today, its not invasive at all.

they just give you meds that effectively cause "bone marrow" (the cells found within bone marrow) to grow in your blood, then collect your blood.

everyone should get on the bone marrow and organ donor lists immed.
  6. i think every 2/3 times i get blood drawn, i pass out

Yeah, not gonna lie I'm a total puss when it comes to needles and giving blood and stuff, but I'd feel like a scumbag the rest of my life if I let someone die to save myself a short amount of pain.

  8. Great thing to do, no doubt there will be pain/ inconveience but if it can save a life then its a pretty amazing thing to do. GL.
  9. I would suggest talking to your Primary Care Physician. Also, I found this link http://www.marrow.org/DONOR/When_You...ex.html#likely

GL with whatever your decision is. Keep OT updated.
  10. Does donating Bone Marrow have anything to do with blood types (A B AB O)? Like do they have a need for certain types or is it something totally different? I would be willing to do something like this, but I have the rarest type of blood AB-.

  11. Am the only one who read the title of the thread and the poster and thought Dr. Obertson?

I don't think so, they swab your mouth to test for this and don't take any blood so I doubt it.
