    [SIZE=2]A British teenager has been banned from America for life for sending Barack Obama an abusive email.[/SIZE]

    Luke Angel was reprimanded by police on both sides of the Atlantic after firing off a drunken message to the White House calling the president a "p****".
    The FBI intercepted the message and contacted police in the UK who went to see the 17-year-old at his home in Silsoe, Bedfordshire.
    Luke, a college student, is now on a list of people who are banned from visiting the States.
    We were informed by the Metropolitan Police and went to see him. He said, 'Oh dear, it was me'. Bedfordshire Police spokeswoman

    The teenager told the Bedfordshire On Sunday newspaper that he had sent the email after watching a TV programme about September 11.
    When asked about the ban, Luke said: "I don't really care. My parents aren't very happy about it.
    "The police who came round took my picture and told me I was banned from America forever."

    A Bedfordshire Police spokesman said: "The individual sent an email to the White House full of abusive and threatening language.
    "We were informed by the Metropolitan Police and went to see him. He said, 'Oh dear, it was me'."
    Officers will take no criminal action.
    Joanne Ferreira, of the US Department of Homeland Security, said there are about 60 reasons a person can be barred.
    She added: "We are prohibited from discussing specific cases."

    Banning people from other countries because we don't like what they say? I mean didn't Ahmadinejad just come over and give a speech at one of our schools, wasn't that hate speech? Why are we targeting insignicant outsiders who speak against our leaders? The War On Terrorism is looking more like the War on Free Speech imo.

    OP,

    Threatening letters to the POTUS should be taken very seriously. It has nothing to do with free speech. If he posted that exact same thing on P5s or somewhere else, its one thing but when you address something to the President, you are entering dangerous territory.

    was the letter itself posted though? if the namecalling was all there was that's ridiculous, but if there was a threat in the message, MAYBE I guess it could warrant permaban. I saw this earlier and I was like.... wow just wow

    Another kid writes a letter when a Republican is in the White House, he would also get banned.

    That or he suffers an unfortunate accident (as a message to others who might think about doing the same thing).

    you just can't make threats to the prez. never have been able to, never will be able to.

    I'd love to read the email though. There is a difference between making threats and "a threatening email".

    it is a federal crime to threaten the president given that almost 10 percent of our presidents have been killed and close to 20 percent have died in office, this isn't something to joke about

    I just wrote a threatening letter to the governor of New Jersey. Hopefully I will never be allowed to go back to that state.
