Could be worse.... About a year a half go, here is the doctor putting my ankle back into place after I spent 12 hours in the mountains, wondering if it was a compound or just a VERY bad break (foot was almost facing the other directions) dam snowmobiles....
-
holy shit dude that is crazy
-
What is a compound? Isn't a compound fracture just a fracture with the bone sticking out of the skin?
-
a Compound is the bone sticking out of the skin ya... but we were back country sledding, broke it at 10:30 in the morning and search and rescue never got there till 10:30 at night, (no idea if I was losing blood or not) we dug a big ass hole made a fire, while one guy went for 911. We were SOO far back into the mountains, when the rescue guy rode me back out he dumped the sled twice, once when the leg was tied to it... was soo crazy!! I was pretty pumped to see the ambulance... broke like 6 different bones in my leg and ankles... 16 screws later and one large metal plate... took about till a few weeks ago before u it was 100%
-
well, the Vatican has just informed me that i need to call our family doc in the morning and get them to book me into the fracture clinic instead of going to emerg.
When the vatican speaks, people listen. Yes dear. -
Definitely this...if you tear ligaments during a serious sprain, you would be PRAYING that you broke your ankle instead.
-
This is true. Mind you I have never broken my ankle, but I destroy every ligament in my ankle while playing soccer and the doctor told me I should have broken it, I would have been better off. I was black from my foot to my knee and couldn't walk properly for over a month. Good luck tomorrow!
-
Keep spraining it imo. Eventually u will lose all your ligaaments and it wont hurt much anymore.

My ankle ligaments are so shot that i regulary trip over things like crosswalks and three point lines.
Good news is it does not hurt and get right back up. Gives peeps a good laugh as well -
google the "ottowa ankle rules". if any of those apply to you, you should go get an xray. otherwise, its likely just sprained and treatment is just symptomatic. GLGL.

that's about as bad as it gets lol. -
i think you read it wrong
-
You'll probably wish is was a clean break because honestly it's actually easier to rehab than a really bad sprain. I couldn't run right or play sports for about 6 months to a year after I had a grade 3 sprain of my right ankle.
The doc actually said that bad sprains tend to cause more damage because of the tendon damage, which can't repair like a broken bone can. -
Edited By: SCTrojans May 19th, 2011 at 05:21 AMObviously wasn't saying "just" hinting at the lack of severity, said "just" as the obviousness of knowing what the fuck was wrong because he said "wondering if it was a compound or just a VERY bad break".Originally Posted by MUPokerPlayer

I just didn't understand how the fuck he didn't know it was a compound fracture if all it takes to know that is if your bone is stickin out of your goddamn skin. -
Done and done. I've had testing done on it and basically my ankle is held by muscle and bone. Turning it over causes a quick bit of pain but that is about it now.

Had a buddy totally fuck his leg up when playing roller hockey. He went one way and his leg tried to go another. For some reason he shouted "it had to be me" at the top of his lungs only to make me and the rest of my friends playing bust out laughing. We were like wtf do u mean it had to be you. Anyways we thought he was "ok" and just sprained it so he limped with one of the shitty sticks under his pit to the house which was like 1/2 a mile away from the court we play on. He went to class and walked around campus all day the next day. I asked how his Ankle was that night and he showed me only to be surprised as I was at how fucking black and blue it was. He finally went to the doctor the following day to find out he needed surgery because walking on it caused the little ball in his foot to like come apart from the ankle or some shit like that. He had to have some screws and plates put in.
Don't think he will be playing puck anytime soon but he is finally about 100%.
side note- I have sprained and broke BOTH ankles. Both suck just depends how severe the sprain is or how bad the break/fracture is. I had boots and casts for each and ended up taking one off my senior year of HS so I could play the full soccer season (awful idea) as my ankle ALWAYS pops when I move.
GL man -
Get any kind of soft pad and cut it in a horse shoe shape. Wrap it pointing up around the swollen part of your ankle and it will spread the swelling out and heel faster. In high school and college I had severe sprains multiple times and was only out a couple days.
You could probably google it and it'll show you exactly what to do. Hope this helps -
Nah...When you go in tell them you are having sharp chest pains and shortness of breath and maybe some pain/tingling in your left arm. After they run an EKG on you just say, "oh, since I am here do you mind having a look at my ankle?" You will be in and out in under an hour, EZ game.

This was mine two years ago...X-ray found nothing, MRI showed several flapping ligaments and a break...a couple screws later and 3 months on crutches I'm as good as new!

you can follow the faint bruising up the leg, I guess that's where the ligaments snapped up to -
Jeebus nw25TH! I would have rather just broke it. How did you do that?
-
Just did this a month and a half ago in a basketball game. Instantly went to the size of a softball, I have always had bad ankles so I just iced and elevated it for 48 hours. It was still giving me pain after 3 weeks so i went to doctor and he told me I have a hairline fracture on teh inside of my ankle...FML. Fortunately there isnt much they can do for a hairline fracture and they just said no hard sports for 3 months. Like that is going to happen

Fuck my luck. -
My ankle still has another 8 months or so of healing. I walked on it for 3 weeks before the army finally diagnosed it properly. Xray didn't show anything. Mri showed something but not conclusive. Ct scan showed the break. Worst part right now (3 months of healing already) is I feel fine but I have no range of motion and won't for some time. It sucks cause I'm up in the barracks having to listen to my company graduate right now.

A sprained ankle can actually be worse than a broken ankle, you want to hope it's broken.

yeah a severe high ankle sprain is terrible...my friend in high school did that when we were hooping...he took a funny step and sprained his ankle severely and tore ligaments...it was really bizarre...i saw the whole thing happen he was dribbling the ball up the court at half speed and just stepped on his foot kind of sideways and just went down.
i sprained my ankle once but thankfully my ligaments were left intact -
i thought if it is really bruised up that usually means its a sprain
-
Couldn't get into the fracture clinic and was told to have it checked out at emerg.
Waited 3 hours but the place was busy as hell and doctor hadn't seen me yet. The E/R waiting area is like a circus freak show. Examples:
1. Some old guy freaking out that the world was against him and the entire healthcare system was a fraud (he had been to 12 specialists in 2 years and they were all giving him a snow job) and he called it medical genocide or some stupid shit. Might have been stackinsideways but i'm not sure.
2. Some heavy emo girl who moaned and whimpered the entire time, and then find out she had been to E/R 3 times in the last 2 days and they couldn't find anything physically wrong with her.
3. Some dude with a huge inflamed sore the size of a golf ball behind his ear that was seeping and ugly as fuck.
My ankle suddenly doesn't feel that bad. I'm outa there. I'll keep it elevated and iced down for a couple days and see how it goes. -
canadian health care, everybody!
