Yeah there have been a couple missed calls, but nothing outrageous in comparison to the real refs. Where these refs are failing is in controlling the game and the pace at which things get done. There's gonna be blown calls, and there's no way of knowing what the refs saw in the pile to make them give the ball to Atlanta. It happens all the time where refs are pulling out the pile, give the signal that the ball is going one way, and some random guy is trotting out of the pile with the ball up in the air like he's the one that recovered it. I have no idea if they got that call right or wrong, but that's beside the point.

cannot throw to the right. look how much he has to loft it or how much it wobbles when he tries not to loft it.
-
That ref saw a falcons player in possession with his knees down...people act lie he just had his thumb up his ass, blew his whistle and pointed in a random direction.
But somehow people would rather him let 6 people pile on top of that Falcon and then figure it out after they all wrestled for it, which is wrong -
i dont think they even started uncovering the pile. a falcon away from the pile signaled they recovered, then someone closer to the pile did the same, and some ref just came in and said sure.
-
Agreed with all of that....no idea why everyone is saying they must have got the recovery call wrong cause a Denver player came out with it well after the call was made, which happens pretty often.

priorities : 1. make the right call. 2. keep the game going crisply for the impatient fucks at home who need a xanax.
-
what in the hell is that official on the sideline looking at there?
-
yeah the guy on the sideline is supposed to see through the receiver to see the DBs hand holding his jersey?
-
Hughes is pretty damn butthurt over the ref chat.

Watching that fumble live, I thought Decker recovered it. The first Falcon to the ball definitely had a chance but didn't come down with the ball, giving Decker the best chance. When they went to the slow-mo replay, it looked like both Decker and the Falcon whiffed. So it's pretty tough to tell who came out of the pile with the ball. I can only assume the refs did their due diligence and didn't just randomly give the ball to Atlanta.

No there was a ref in the pile pulling people off and he was the first one to signal Falcons ball.

did no one see what happened... unfortunately im not watching on my tv with dvr so i cant go back, but iirc a ref just came in like alpaca outta fucking nowhere and made a call. itd be like a bang bang play at the plate and the 2nd base ump runs into your screen and calls the runner out. -
No, there was a ref in the pile for a solid 10 seconds or so and pulled several people off the pile before he made the call.

the thing was the ref randomly said falcon ball when there was no way he could see who had the ball

coaches should get unlimited challenges with this kind of officiating

think he was second and was going off of what another ref had called, because he had barely gotten anyone off when he called it. was a quarter ago so like 4 hours give or take, but i remember seeing an official call falcons ball and thinking lolwut -
Yeah history has shown we should just give the refs the benefit of the doubt, because they haven't made up any calls on the spot. I don't understand why you two are so passionately defending these guys. It's almost as ridiculous as me saying the refs are specifically out to screw the broncos.

pretty true.
it's just every "game thread" turns into," hey what's everyone's biased opinion of the officiating" thread?
while sports games are actually interesting and officiating rarely deviates from its standard imperfect quality. -
Everyone is probably right. We clearly had a better angle then the ref that was in the pile.
-
whereas your philosophy is "FUCK THESE REFS. theyre really bad and every other game is officiated perfectly."

Twitter now saying that the officials marked off ten yards (instead of five) on the defensive holding penalty.
Whoops.
