“It restores my faith in human nature to think that there are people who have been around Washington all this time and are not yet so cynical as to think that [the deficit] can’t be solved by voluntary contributions,” he says with a chuckle. So, Buffett has pledged to match one for one all such voluntary contributions made by Republican members of Congress. “And, I’ll even go three for one for McConnell.” That could be quite a bill if McConnell takes the challenge; after all, the Senator is worth at least $10 million. As Buffett put it to me: “I’m not worried.”

    your move Mitch

Well guess Buffett just called the bluff

No he didn't. He calls the bluff when he sends in a check, no strings attached.

More literal? Its just dumb? If someone tells me that they don't think I will donate to a charity and I say ok, I'll "call your bluff" if you match my donation. That's not calling anyone's bluff, its just a copout.

We could raise income taxes to 90% on the rich and Buffet would still pay less in taxes than his secretary since he doesn't take much of an income.

You know what "calling a bluff" is. Its when conservatives donate to charities at a higher level than liberals, calling the bluff of liberals that they care more than conservatives about the poor and disabled.

  9. Buffet plans on donating a majority of his wealth(83%-99%) to charity upon his death.

    Win?

If he really believed the government was so great and needed more money then why not donate it to the government? Is it possible that he thinks the charity will do better things with that money than the US government? Hypocritical much?

  12. Where is this buffet? I wanna visit.

  13. that's not how i see it ...

Buffett - the uber rich can afford to pay more taxes.

conservatards - oh ya, well why don't you just donate it, big shot.

Buffet - how about if i just match whatever amount you agree to donate?

conservatards - well you suck. that isn't calling a bluff. keep your damned money.

That's like challenging a conservative Christian to match your donation to Planned Parenthood.

Its dumb just like this would be dumb.

A Christian says to an atheist "my church needs more money"!

Atheist says "well why not donate some yourself?"

Christian says "Oh yeah, I will then, if you match what I donate!"

    Atheist "LOL"

13%? Since when did the Canadian tax rate get so low?

  26. What a fuckin toolbag douche.
  27. Its not calling a bluff per se but I think Buffett is just trying to highlight the hypocrisy of American politicians. As in, its ok for someone else to voluntarily donate to the Government but not themselves.
  28. voluntarily giving money to the government is a bad idea

buffett should be wiser than that

  29. WHy did Buffet single out Republicans? Democrats should lead by example, not follow. THey will only do what they have been pushing for (pay more taxes) if they force OTHER people to do it first? huh?

He called them out because after he said rich should pay more they (mainly mitch & co) basically made a law (describes it in article) that made it to where people could donate more, so this is how he came back at them.....its just a dick measuring contest between the two, stupid yes, but hilarious none the less

+1 spewtard, that is what I was trying to convey, used bluff out of context, neither side is right in this situation though IMO
