So I'm looking for a new Queen sized mattress b/c I've had this mattress for at least 10-15 years minimum, possibly longer. My girlfriend hates my bed but she stays w/ me every night.
My buddy told me buying mattresses on Craigslist is the way to go, so many great deals, for example heres a $1,300 mattress brand new for $195

Thoughts?? -
Good luck explaining to the cops why you have a mattress full of dead bodies.
-
You better ask for a reciept doubt they are getting rid of a 1300 "new" matress for 195. Makes sense. Prob got 2 million bed bugs in there.
-
A) LoL @ Buying anything from Evansville
B) LoL @ Buying what you will be sleeping on for majority of your day off of craigslist...god only knows what has been done to those matresses -
I have no experience buying mattresses
He says pillow tops are amazing, and most of them are legit.
He has bought a few off Craigslist already -
This just seems wrong.
-
gross, i would never be able to sleep on that. bring a blacklight with you so you can check it for semen before purchasing.
-
theres a few things in life you dont go cheap on.. a mattress is def one of them, let alone one off CL
-
My roommate bought one and said it was great. I opted to buy one at a store but he said it was a great deal
-
I'm about as cheap as they fucking come, and even I wouldn't stoop to this level. I'd buy a bed frame, boxspring and mayyyybe even bed sheets from Craigslist, but no way in hell I'd get a mattress.
Suck it up and just buy a new one. Get all the other shit for cheap if you want to save some $$
You spend 1/3 of your life on this thing, might as well invest some money into it.
And yes, pillow tops & memory foam are the shiat. -
guyor his buddy prob work for a mattress company or have a "hookup" so they steal a couple at a time and nobody notices and then sell them on CL for $195 = profit
-
But every single one of you people have slept in a hotel/motel. They don't change mattresses there. What is the diff? Most of them say Brand New, still in plastic so not used.
I will spent $200-$300 on a good mattress but that is it. -
but the fact that he's selling it for so cheap should be a warning sign. there must be something wrong with it (litter of kittens, heavy flow period, etc)
-
ARE YOU SERIOUS?????? Ask yourself this- why would they sell it on craiglist?
First of all, the germs and bacteria that can go undetected just make me cringe...
The ONLY explanation that makes sense is that it's stolen or it isn't brand new, either way you don't want it (possession of stolen goods is a crime too, just ask the pawn shop why they don't want stolen goods).
No business can sell small volume at a discounted price, craigslist or not.
My advice-- iKea -- great low priced mattresses. They produce and sell such a large volume that no one can beat their prices. -

$1299 Spring Queen PillowTop NEW

**JAYBONED** - $195

lolllllllllllllllllll
-
$200? wow big spender, I don't think you can even buy a crib mattress for that. Why would you be such a cheap ass on something you sleep on 8 hrs a day, do you like a sore back every morning?
-
dont you own a business? u should be able to afford a decent mattress u spend 1/3 of ur life on ur mattress, this is one thing u dont want to skimp on...
I got a brand new serta(full XL) that is comfy as shit from macys for like $450... -

costco has pretty good prices. I dont think id buy the one from craigslist, but thats just me.
edit: at a glance, that mattress doesnt look like it really costs 1200 bucks. -
I bought a used mattress off craigslist once...was really happy with it...was only 6mos old (or so the guy said) and was worth $1300 new...got it for $400.
Then I sold it on craigslist about a year and a half later for $200.
Was one of the best mattresses I ever slept on...no regrets.
As long as it doesn't have bed bugs (the only real concern), who cares what's happened on it, I got a mattresses cover and always had a sheet on it.
Now that I think about it, I've actually never bought a new mattress. -

hahahahhahahaha...i laughed when i saw the title and after reading the responses i laughed until my stomach hurt...good work here
ask if you could get a taste test -
This thread is hilarious, but seriously maybe it's just stolen and/or imperfections?
It has a warranty? -
I recently moved out in a hurry from somewhere and had a 1K+ mattress that i couldnt get rid of, if i'da had the time i would have put it on craigslist and gladly taken 100 dollars for it... sure it happens all the time
obv buying a used mattress comes with some bad dreams, but i'll probably go this route when i decide to get a new nice one, just leave it outside for a few days, spray it with some chemicals, beat on it with a stick, etc etc and double sheet it for the first month or so -
I just moved to Seattle and tons of the mattress stores here put up some of their inventory on craigslist for a bit cheaper than in store... they sell stuff there, they drum up business, and it generally works pretty well.
There are so many mattress depot type places out there now that you can get a really solid pillowtop queen for like 400... if craigslist points you in the direction, by all means go to the store. But like it's been said in this thread a gazillion times i'm sure, you spend such a huge percentage of your time in bed that you should be willing to spend enough to make sure you're comfortable. I got a great bed for $500 all-inclusive 2 weeks ago and I've slept sooooo much better.
So if it's a dude at a house claiming it's new, doubt. If it's a store unloading extra inventory or getting free craigslist pub, take advantage.
And buy new sheets. Preferably baller silver sheets if you can afford them.
