  1. My wife and I are planning a vacation possibly to Cali probably in November sometime. Neither one of us have been there before, but have friends living in San Fran and LA. What part(s) should we visit and what do we HAVE to see? A USC football game would probably be on the list somewhere, so LA would probably take a day or two, but where else?
  2. you can start by asking your friends that live there.
  3. already did, thanks. gettin opinions from others as well if thats ok with you?

  4. The USC-UCLA game in late November will be amazing. I think you also have to hit up Disneyland, Six Flags Magic Mountain (if you're into extreme roller coasters), Monterey (if you're golfers), take a drive down the Central Coast, and much much more. What are your guys' interests/hobbies as that can help us weed down your best options? Feel free to PM me with any additional questions.
  5. Driving/flying?

If you're driving, going up highway 1 could be nice and peaceful for you guys. Stare at all the beautiful beach and make some stops to actually enjoy it.

There's plenty of vineyards if you're into that as well (probably more in the Northern part of CA).

If you're going to be in SF and like baseball, check out AT&T Park (or whatever they're calling it these days). I'm an A's fan, but damn that's a nice stadium to watch a game.

I'll try and think of more, that's all I can think of off the top of my head.
  6. LA - Venice Beach, Hollywood scene if you're in to that, San Diego Zoo, Six Flags Magic Mountain (Valencia), a bunch of casinos down there, etc.

SF - Get tickets early for the SFGigantes in the World Series, Alcatraz tour, Pier 39 (sourdough bowl w/clam chowder or chili is toptop), stay over night on USS Pampanito (submarine - used in the filming of Down Periscope), Coit Tower, GG Bridge (if weather permits), head south to Santa Cruz/Monterey for more stuff. Head east on I-80 to Fairfield where they have the Jelly Belly Factory and the Budweiser Brewery. The tours there are great and the one for Jelly Belly is completely free. During the weekdays you tour while they are in operation and you get tons of free stuff and they have a discounted store.
  7. San Francisco - Alcatraz, there's an exhibit of King Tut coming soon (not sure how the ticket sales are going atm though), Pier 39, Cable Cars, Ghiradelli square.

Monterey isn't too far from SF either and the Monterey Bay Aquarium is fun to go to.

Just a few suggestions. I don't live in So. Cal, so can't really help you with stuff to do there.

    Edit-

meh, Garbageman pretty much said the same stuff plus more.

This, except OP is going in November when I'm pretty sure they won't be playing... </going out on a limb>

If you're into it tho, you should def. come up and experience Wine Country. It will be semi-cool up here but the scenery will be well worth it imo.

Also, spend at least a day in San Francisco
  9. If your into theme parks, there is a Six Flags in Vallejo, Ca.

If you are in San Fran on a Saturday morning there is an awesome "Farmers market" that is very cool...lots of locally grow fruits. vegetables, etc. Tons of food, and some pretty good views..

And if you happen on a small town between San Fran. and Sacramento named Vacaville, feel free to PM me, we will throw something on the BBQ and have a brew or two.
  10. No doubt. I think that's around the time we're planning on going, the game is a day after my birthday, and it would be my first time in the coliseum. Lots of great ideas guys keep em coming! thank you!

  11. from Indiana... the ocean might be a good place to start. Go to Newport Beach, just south of LA. Here you can people watch, walk the board walk, boating activities, and awesome resturants and bars. Also, jump on a boat to Catalina island, its beautiful. If you head to SD you should surf and eat mexican food.

newport is just a rich community, theres not really much to do from a tourist point of view, and in november the beach will be cold.

Hermosa Beach has a GREAT bar scene near the pier. check it out online, theres a bunch of places and great restaurants, also a really chill atmosphere thats a mix between indie, college, and skaters.
  13. if you do happen to do the six flags, pick up a coke can.... if you bring one with you there are two specials to choose from:

    1. Buy 1 Get 1 Free valid through 12/31/2009

    or

    2. Pay only $19.99 (but this one is only valid through 9/27/2009 so I guess it wouldn't matter if you go in November)
