    I stink at this game. I have never played a shooter b4 and I am struggling mightily. My kill to death ratio is like .2. I have no idea about upgrades and perks. I think I would enjoy it a lot more if I had some clue. for a noob, what gun should I use? what should I upgrade first? what should I equip? I think I would enjoy sniping best. Is it possible to be successful as a sniper? or is run and gun the only way to play the game?

    i think if you learn how to shoot the guns without a silencer your k/d will go way up. if you can get that red dot off the HUD when you shot your golden.

    sniping is really hard in black ops.

    get an automatic assault rifle or sub machine gun. attach a normal red dot scope. hide in corners and wait for someone to run by and kill them until you get more used to aiming and how many hits it takes to get the kill. when your more comfortable with that start moving around more / experiment w. guns.

    if so i would say use the camando you can shoot long range and also shoot from the hip its pretty sick.

    if you play team death matches or free for alls, sniper probably isn't your best option unless you plan on just camping out somewhere.

    yeah sniper rifles are probably the most difficult guns to use in the game. id recommend suppressed galil w/ghost, slight of hand and w/e for your class...if they cant see you they cant shoot you.

    Just stick to assault rifles... they're the easiest to learn and use. The other types of guns require more skill in aiming/controlling the recoil and stuff. I like the famas and galil so far -- but they all work pretty well.

    I'm five prestige....most addictive game ive ever played.

    I sucked at MW2 for a while...I am a slightly below average player at this.

    Its gonna take time to be proficient. Do an assault rifle but u will be limited until you move up some levels. Work through those assault rifles first and use a red dot site as soon as you can as it helps you get the feel. As far as perks I like speed and quick reloading. I also like Marathon, claymores, RPG's, lightweight, sticky grenades.

    This. I absolutely hate losing in anything, so there is no chance in hell I was going to play online before getting good at the game first. Start the campaign on regular - and if it seems too easy, i.e. you're not getting killed 5-6 times, move up to level 3, I think it's called Hardened, and start over. Complete the campaign - this will not be easy. Then move up to level 4. I've just started level 4 but feel level 3 would be a cake walk if I did it again. Then start playing online.
