Been searching for 3-4 months after getting laid off and finally found the ideal job im looking for. I sent my resume along with cover letter to the HR department, who wrote an email back saying "thank you for applying, we received your materials and will get back to you if you are chosen for an interview"..that was tuesday, its now thursday..should i call to touch base? or was that email sort of a "dont call...we'll call you" type thing.
Fine line between being persistant and annoying.
**update**
So i called, and said "id noticed the position had been taken off the site and was still expressing my interest in the job, and wondering where the selection process was currently at"
she responds "well, we had our first round of interviews starting yesterday, and we had an overwhelming amount of applicants, so if we do in fact want to set up an interview we will give you a call"...
basically said nothing new at all, and the same sort of "we'll call you" thing...guessing its not good since i wasnt called for the first round of interviews
college degree with a 3.45gpa, accepted into a nationally ranked MBA program, with 2 AMAZING internships, and ive been applying for jobs every day for 3 months and cant even get an interview..FUCK this job market. -
Call them to set up an interview.
-
if you really want the job you have to do something to stand apart from everyone else. its a gamble as some hate when you call and some like it, so i say go for it.
-
Since they sent you an email confirming that they received your info, and it's only two days later, I think it would be an awful move to call them at this point.
-
a small detail...in the email it said "we will keep you in consideration until the job has been filled. But on their website now, it says "there are no full time jobs at this time"..so they have taken the job down.

I heard K-Mart's hiring

if you went to a nationally ranked b-school, didn't you finish recruiting before you graduated? what about their career center / alumni network?
-
I went to Ball State University...a good, but not nationally ranked business school, and their policy was they wanted their students to find their own jobs on their own, and not have stuff just handed to them. so they didnt really do the traditional recruiting like other schools do. even though, i still got an amazing job outside of college working for the Indy Racing League..but a 68% profit margin loss resulted in me being laid off.
I have been accepted to an MBA program that was the nationally ranked one, but dont start till Jan..just saying its frustrating having a good resume and not even getting basic, entry level jobs.
...and ive thought about the career center, but i didnt know if 2 years out of college are you allowed to go back to your college's career center and use it?! -

My boss says call but dont harass. If you want to impress show up in person instead of calling. They will see you care and it will give them a reminder of who you are again. If its up to you and another for the job you will get it

I found my first job through my career center and it was about 2 years after i graduated. You definitely should at least explore this option.

just curious what nationally ranked MBA school wants applicants with 0 yrs work experience? Most of the best programs are looking for 4+ yrs. -
I'll definitely look into that option then...and i did say that i got laid off from the IRL, so i dont know where ur getting the 0yrs experience from...i have 2yrs, and the average age of students in their MBA program is 24...so obv they cant be looking for 4yrs of experience.

They weighed it heavily on leadership experience (being a MP platoon leader for 3 years gave me tons) GMAT scores, undergrad GPA and extra curricular stuff...experience is good for the late 20's who didnt do great undergrad, but now have experience.
